Monsters lurk beneath the roaring high seas....

When street rat Del stows away on a merchant vessel he’s worried about staying hidden, not sea monsters. But when a kraken attacks, Del is thrown overboard and finds himself stranded on a desert island, one of three survivors. Rescue is impossible when they discover the kraken still lurking in the surrounding waters, desperate for the dragon eggs one of them is carrying.

Del, wealthy merchant’s daughter Etenia, and former dragon rider Lathan must find a way off the island before the kraken finishes them. Del has only ever heard rumors of dragon riders and thought those stories were myths, but now Lathan’s clutch of dragon eggs is their only hope. But Del knows all too well that he can only rely on himself, so how is he supposed to bond with a dragon?

He’ll need to learn quick or the monster in the deep will get him. Help isn’t coming and the only way off the island will be on the back of a dragon. Can Del really rely on his companions and a dragon hatchling? Or will his only hope of escape be to go it alone?

Del and the Dragon . . .

Orphaned street rat Del is a stowaway on a merchant vessel that is attacked by a kraken. Del and two others are thrown overboard and end up together on an island. The kraken is after the dragon eggs that former dragon rider Lathan is carrying, so it is lurking close to the island and there is no way to get rescued until the eggs hatch and they bond with a dragon to escape.

Del, Etenia, and Lathan are still in danger as the kraken won’t give up its vigil. Del is concerned because he has trust issues and cannot see relying on a dragon to save him. They would never be able to bond. But if he can’t climb onto a dragon, he will never get off the island. Will he learn to trust? Can he trust his survival to the dragon?

The story line is good and I enjoyed the characters. The world-building will pull the reader in and put you in this magical place. Grab your copy and see if escape is possible, or if Del is willing to partner with a dragon to defeat their enemy. The narrator for the audiobook version, Jeanie Talbot, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Terror by a Kraken

I enjoyed listening this audible. The story’s engaging, the characters are entertaining and the narrator Is awesome! What do you do, when a sea monster is determined to destroy your ships and capture your dragon eggs? The three main characters, Del – Etenia – Lathan, are in a nightmare, as screams erupt, magic uses use spells and the ships break apart. The only chance of survival is reaching a small island. Will they make it? Will the Kraken still come after the saved eggs? This action-packed story has danger, survival, a Kraken, a stowaway, dragon eggs, mystery, magic, an island, trust, dragons, suspense, Kraken battles, a cave, humor, twists and turns and more!

I absolutely loved the story. It will be interesting to see if Pathena will rise to the challenge. Will Del and Sercha be able to help save a place that has only ever treated him badly. Can’t wait for the next book.

Great story

This is a great story who doesn’t love dragons. I liked how their friendship grew between them and how he started to trust them. Looking forward to book 2.

Family friendly dragon story

This is a great story about a kid who has it really rough and becomes a hero. I don't want to give away the story, but if you want a story about dragons that is ok for any age, this is the book for you. No sex and no violence, but some fun action. Check it out.

If Aladdin got to be a Dragonrider!

This book just kept surprising me. The characters have such incredible backstories, especially Del, who reminds me of Aladdin! Also I've never seen Dragons vs Kraken before and I loved how new the struggle seems to other of Ava Richardson's Dragonrider struggles. And the character voices were absolutely spot on! I cannot even wait for the next book.

Sudden Dragonriders

The whole, "surprise, you have a dragon now" thing was fun, since neither character had planned on it, and it drove them to wrestle and adjust to new plans and identities. The Kraken out-smarting match was great too.

Great Series Starter

Ava Richardson has provided us with a great start to a new series. The character work and story line were well written and kept me entertained. Jeanie Talbot did a fantastic job of breathing life into the characters and bringing the story to life, making this a fun listen.

I received a copy of the audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
