Publisher's summary

People magazine named Eloisa James' novel Midnight Pleasures "Page Turner of the Week" and raved, "Romance writing does not get much better than this." Now the acclaimed author returns with another sumptuous tale of passion and misadventure in Regency England.

Gabrielle Jerningham cherishes the portrait of her betrothed, the perfect Peter Dewland... until she meets his commanding older brother Quill. But it is Peter to whom she has been promised. And how can she possibly transform her voluptuous, outspoken self into the poised gentlewoman Peter requires?

When Gabby's shocking décolletage plunges to her waist at her first ball, Peter is humiliated. But Quill comes to the rescue, to the peril of his heart. An accident years before has left Quill plagued by headaches - the kind that grow more excruciating with strenuous exercise. Needless to say, this hardly bodes well for siring progeny. But the very sight of Gabby leaves Quill breathless. One forbidden kiss and Quill vows to have her, headaches and Peter be damned! But it will take a clever man - and a cleverer woman - to turn the tables on propriety and find their way to true love.

Pretty Good

This book was my favorite of the trilogy. I loved Quill and was happy to hear more of him. I imagined Gabby to look like a Rose from the Titanic (different hair color of course) but when Peter referred to her “fleshy “ I rolled my eyes. It’s clear that Peter isn’t attracted to women and I’d have preferred the writer to be more direct about that. Peter whined too much and wasn’t anything like whom was portrayed in previous books.

Overall it’s worth a listen though you will get frustrated with the misinterpretations the lovers indulge in. But you know, that’s how marriages fail in reality. Assumptions and misunderstanding. Worth the credit.

Amazing Narrator

I love Susan Duerden's narration. She makes the characters come to life. This was my least favorite of the series, but it was still a good story.

Loved it!

Of the three books in the series Quill’s and Gabby’s story is my favorite. The first two were a bit too slow and drawn out. Didn’t like Peter’s personality change. In the previous book he was portrayed as a nice young man. In this book he was a fist class self-centered jerk. With that said, it hinted that his refusal to marry and criticism of his fiancée stems from his preference For men. I enjoyed the series and recommend reading all of the books in the series.

So excellent, I listened again!

I had forgotten I’d listened to this delightful story before. Absolutely enchanted. Love love Quill and Gabby. The narrator is excellent. How she makes the tale come to life! Now will be searching for more books by this author and narrator.

Codswallop

Would you consider the audio edition of Enchanting Pleasures to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Codswallop is a word in British slang meaning "rubbish" or "nonsense". It is also the name of the butler in this regency romance.

I was enjoying this story very much until the end. The ending was a load of codswallop. There is no way these events could have happened. Disappointing that the author would choose this way out, when there were so many other good outcomes.

What three words best describe Susan Duerden’s performance?

Overdone, too "breathless"

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No

Amazing narration

The narrator was one of the best I've ever heard. Not only could she doing convincing men's voices, but she even managed a very good Indian accent when called for. The story was pretty good too. A few twists and turns, but some what predictable.
