Dr. Jack Kruse
About this listen
Neurosurgeon and wildly controversial Paleo blogger Dr. Jack Kruse gives us his first book, Epi-paleo Rx: The Prescription for Disease Reversal and Optimal Health. Kruse, who used his findings to lose 140 pounds and pack on muscle, takes the reader through his prescriptions for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, autoimmunity, brain health, and aging. The material weaves together surprises from our Ice Age origins with the new science of epigenetics, or the effect of diet and environment on gene expression.
A champion of “biohacking,” the art of tinkering with one’s own biology, Kruse pounces on his own profession’s ineptness when it comes to chronic conditions and urges readers to take health care into their own hands. He discusses which labs to order and why, why your doctor is obligated to write you a prescription you don’t need, the vital roles daylight and darkness play in metabolism, and the optimal diet for different stages of health and different times of year.
Perhaps Kruse’s more fascinating contributions to Paleo literature are his findings on cold therapy—the effect of cold environments, immersion in cold water, and ice pack therapy on disease reversal, pain, and optimal living. Kruse explains how our origins as cold-adapted mammals hold the key to disease reversal, using a shocking biohack to prove his theory.
The Epi-paleo Rx is the result of Kruse’s abundant research and clinical application in his practice as a neurosurgeon. Kruse questions conventional wisdom about human metabolism and chronic disease, arguing science has incomplete information when it comes to insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, and their related illnesses. By examining the human body through the prism of our early beginnings and the science of epigenetics, we find each of us already possesses the “owner’s manual” to reverse disease and live optimally.

Throughout most of evolution humans walked barefoot and slept on the ground, largely oblivious that the surface of the Earth contains limitless healing energy. Science has discovered this energy as free-flowing electrons constantly replenished by solar radiation and lightning. Few people know it, but the ground provides a subtle electric signal that maintains health and governs the intricate mechanisms that make our bodies work - just like plugging a lamp into a power socket makes it light up.

Because of our highly processed diet, pesticides, and overuse of antibiotics, our guts are now missing so many of the good bacteria that we require to be healthy. As a result, many of us have lost control over our health, weight, mood, and even behavior. With cutting-edge research, Dr. Davis connects the dots between gut health and modern ailments such as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), a silent and profound epidemic, which affects one out of three people and is responsible for an astounding range of human health conditions.

Story
The most important things in life are our health and happiness. Yet most of us are neither healthy nor happy. We have been led to believe that if we think ahead and make the right choices, we can manifest our dreams. Yet despite our best efforts, we still have more disease and discontent than ever before. Is it possible that our essential ideas about life are flawed? We are all aware of the impact of sunlight on a plant's growth and development. But few of us realize that a plant actually "sees" where light is emanating from and positions itself to be in optimal alignment with it.

Story
Carl Gustav Jung was the 20th century's greatest articulator of the primacy of mind in nature, a view whose origins vanish behind the mists of time. The present book scrutinizes Jung's work to distil and reveal that extraordinary, hidden metaphysical treasure: For Jung, mind and world are one and the same entity; reality is fundamentally experiential, not material; the psyche builds and maintains its body, not the other way around; and the ultimate meaning of our sacrificial lives is to serve God by providing a reflecting mirror to God's own instinctive mentation.

In Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine, naturopathic doctor Lee Know tells the epic story of mitochondria - the widely misunderstood and often-overlooked powerhouses of our cells. The legendary saga began over two billion years ago, when one bacterium entered another without being digested, which would evolve to create the first mitochondrion. Since then, for life to exist beyond single-celled bacteria, it's the mitochondria that have been responsible for this life-giving energy.

Story
Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

Best health hacks for optimal health
Loved the content. Conventional medicine has let me down for many years and books like these provide the science as well as practical treatment plans that can be done at home. Also love the recommended labs to order to track over time. The voiceover sometimes sounded like a real person but at times sounded like a robot or AI. That turned me off a bit but didn’t detract from the knowledge I gleaned.

Wow! This is Amazing Information
Thank you for this Dr Jack Kruse. I have known for 25 years something is not right with the information I’ve been getting from traditional medicine, in many areas of health. I’ve tried so many programs and nothing felt stainable nor did it help for longer than the first couple of weeks. I feel more prepared and I have a deeper understanding of how to help myself. I am following your leptin reset protocol. I just started, so I’ll have to report back but so far wowza… I feel great and the red light therapy protocol has help right away with a host of issues. For example, serotonin levels have noticeably changed after 2 red light sessions, pain in my hips has decreased each session and much more. Soon I will start the cold plunge protocol. I feel better than I have in 25 years! Thank you.

Good story but seriously need a a right narrator
Good insight but was baddly mangled by the narrator. She couldn't even pronounce these words: vagus, and hypothalamus.. At one point, a sentence was incomplete, Ifyou have read the Nutrition & Physical Degeneration, plus the Circadian Code, this bookis an addition. For this book to to receive a decent rating, please hire a male narrator with science knowledge or Dr. Jack Kruse, himself must read the book. i would look into books like Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza for insight.. Lastly, I would consider hiring a,science-subject editor.

Great Lab Test Recommendations in this book!
Love that Dr Kruse is encouraging us to learn to request the fuller spectrum lab tests for optimal health. And even better, he is encouraging us to learn how to read and interpret those tests. Only downside of the book is that I am fairly certain that AI is reading the book, but the info is SO important, it is STILL worth the listen!
