About this listen

War sucks...especially when you’re fighting for the wrong side.

After getting shot down over Tau Ceti, Uplink Squadron commanding officer Lance Baker has come to the realization that Earth is fighting for the wrong side in the ongoing galactic war.

The only problem—their allies, the Overlords, control the Solar System, and to do anything other than what they bid is suicide for humanity.

But other humans—the Kardons—exist, and if an alliance was possible, maybe, just maybe, Earth could get the help it needs to throw off the Overlords’ shackles. Unfortunately, the Kardons are on the wrong side of the battle lines, and if any emissaries are seen crossing them, the Earth will get bombed out of existence.

Baker will have find a way to get to the Kardons’ home planet without being seen, negotiate an alliance, and bring Earth the help it needs to get out from under the Overlords, while the rest of Uplink Squadron continues to kill the people they’d like to be allied with. It’s a terrible plan—and one that could easily result in the destruction of the Earth—but it’s the only one they’ve got.

It’s time to plug back in and save the world.

Another awesome book

The team delivers another great entry in a fun and inspiring series. Boyett brings his A-game as he takes over from Daniels. While I enjoyed Daniels in the previous books, I have to say I prefer Boyett in the role. His nuanced acting and narration really works for the characters and makes it an enjoyable listen. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Mark Boyett continues his excellent performances

In Uplink Squadron Book 4, the transition of humans into AI pilots increases. The irony that is not lost on anyone is that the 'enemy' known as the Overlords are, in fact, AI beings. Don't think too hard about that right now. Read Book 4! I already have my suspicions, but I'll defer to the authors, J.N. Chaney and Chris Kennedy. If I don't like it, I'll write my own series...(yeah, right). Truthfully, I'm along for the ride. I've yet to be disappointed with these authors. To fully immerse (uplink?) yourself into the Uplink Squadron Series, never miss the outstanding Audible performances by Mark Boyett.

Another great addition to the series!

This book takes the main protagonist out of his usual element and puts him into some interesting situations.

A lot of the familiar faces return, and characters that had smaller roles before get to step up and make a bigger impact. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I love Mark Boyett! Excellent voice characterizations and pronunciation.

Not that in don't like Mark But....

I much prefer to keep a narrator through a series and Luke Daniels is almost unequal. What frustrates me is that because Mark has less voices in his tool box and because he narrates another series that I read in kept thinking about the other book series and wondering why the confusion. He did a great job even if I wanted to call the main character James... But if Luke swapped with Mark on that series I would likely have the same complaint. I also know Luke is very busy and highly sought after so this was likely a schedule issue or a desire to get the book out faster or something like that and in those situations the narration can go bad. At least we got a seasoned replacement but I hope the switch isn't permanent going forward, just because the switches can be jarring especially when consuming back to back books in the same series.

New narrator

Mark Boyett has taken this to a new level!!! Before it was sometimes hard to follow, which characters were speaking. The voices for those characters sometimes changed, (example: sometimes they have a really raspy voice with a southern drawl, and then the southern draw would disappear. Multiple characters had rasp such as the Marine commander, and occasionally so did commander Jones).
I enjoyed Luke Daniels and he made the first three books, enjoyable during character development, but as more characters were introduced it became confusing and harder to focus on the story. Marc Boyette does such a wonderful job that I can just enjoy the book. I do hope to hear Luke in different series someday.

Great story, different narrator

I still like the story of everything here, but changing the narrator in the middle of the series was not a great choice
