About this listen

I wouldn’t say my life is a dumpster fire — but it’s far from typical. I’m frenemies with the local werewolves’ Alpha, my clients are shady as hell, and my magic falls firmly in the WTF category. Mephisto, my mysterious and powerful client, is more interested in my magic than the jobs he’s hired me for. And I’m pretty sure my court-ordered therapist thinks I’m an ass.

Maybe it’s not a dumpster fire, but it is a hot mess.

That said, I’m good at my job. Anytime a curse goes wrong, a magical object is lost, or a rogue supernatural needs apprehending, I’m the person you call.

My new assignment is supposed to be simple: Just find a coveted magical object. Instead my client is abducted, I’m pulled into the underbelly of the magical world, and a spell is cast on me that reveals a mark of the raven.

Now I’m being hunted by the people I used to hunt. I’ve piqued the interest of the magical elite. And I don’t know who wants me as an ally and who wants me dead.

I have to fix this.

Because if I don’t, I won’t survive.

So good!

This story is flirty and complex! I am looking g forward to the next book! I want to know the answer to Mephisto's question. i am looking forward to the journey! I enjoyed the complicity of the main character. I am eager to learn more about Erin and the history of her magic.

Awesome story, great narration

I loved listening to this book, the characters and story are great. I listen when I drive to work and it was so freaking hard to get out of my car each morning.
The MC has a unique ability and this book definitely stands out in my extensive Urban Fantasy library.
Looking forward to seeing the characters grow and the story continue. Going to start book 2 right now!

Holding my breath!!!

I honestly don't even want to write this review because I just want to jump right into book 2!! I couldn't put it down. I love the fact that I'm still not sure where I stand with Mephesto, Kerrin, Asher, anyone in Erin's life. They all seem to have different motives and I'm trying to find who is genuine. I absolutely love the was this author writes characters. You definitely feel like they are in your lives and form an emotional attachment to them. There is no filler or unnecessary dialog, just one amazing story!
Plus this Narrator really did a great job especially on the male voices! I highly recommend

Entertaining

I don't think she is a sociopath, maybe sociopathic tendency or more likely a personality disorder. I was really irritated that she told her 'sister' about the blood moon but didn't want her to get involved. If she doesn't want her nosey friends to get involved then she shouldn't tell them. Overall, I like her as a main character. She is quick to lie, steal, and maim but draws the line at breaking a promise to her 'sister'? That seems kinda silly to me.

IT TOOK LONGER TO READ THAN IT SHOULD HAVE

This book was all over the place. I would go back to listen to chapters over and over because I always felt I was missing something. It’s way too many things going on and the plot is messy. Being the curious person I am the cliffhanger does entice me to want to read the second book but I didn’t enjoy the experience. By doing so would make me feel committed and invested in the series and I hate starting something and not finishing. So to make a clean break, I will not be reading any other books in the series.

Love the narrator but the story not so much

The only reason I made it as far into the book as I did is because I really enjoyed the narrator however I couldn’t get past the fact that the whole story is basically a twist on someone’s addiction that’s the whole story is her whining about her addiction I just can’t

Promising storyline

Narrators voice was so annoying I had trouble going through it. Heavy pronunciation on every noun I said. he said. she said. I would turn it off in my car just to breathe. Not going to pay the credits to listen to the rest of the story will buy a book. Cant listen to the voice. Sorry.

Enchanting.

I'm not super great at book reviews, but I'm giving this a shot because McKenzie is such an amazing author, and audiobooks are a new avenue for her.

So, down to business. First, the good: The premise of this story is super intriguing, the characters (especially Mr. M) are sexy and mysterious, and the pacing of the book isn't too bad. Khristine Hvam does an excellent job narrating the book that Mckenzie worked so hard on. She brings to life the characters in a very visceral way. I laughed my way through parts of the book, I swooned at other parts, and I nearly cried at work during other parts.

No, the not so good: While the story is engaging, and I can't wait to see where it goes, I had a hard time with the main character repeating herself. I don't want to go too much into it, because I don't want to post spoilers. However, the main character definitely repeated certain things...frequently. I'm hoping the intent is to show personal character growth in the long run, by having her be very whiny and self centered in the beginning, only to grow out of it. Only time will tell.

Verdict: I will definitely be reading/listening to the rest of the series. And, I will also place them in my "read again" folder. The characters are worth visiting more than once!

spellboundeing

As usual, McKenzie has outdone herself! This book is mesmerizing and captivating. The world she created makes me wish it was a reality and we all lived in it. I cannot wait to "read" the next in the series and finding out what more the author can create.
