About this listen

Frazer, head midwife at a hospital in Perth, Australia, is trying to make her corner of the world a little better by starting up a program for at-risk parents. Not everyone is excited about her ideas. Surrounded by red tape, she finally has to team up with Cora, a social worker who is married to Frazer's boss.

Cora is starting to think her marriage is beyond saving, even if she wants to. Feeling smothered by a domineering spouse, she grabs hold of the program and the distraction Frazer offers with both hands. Soon the two women get a little too close and find themselves in a situation they never dreamed themselves capable of: an affair.

As the two fall deeper, both are torn between their taboo romance and their morals. But walking away from each other may not be as simple as they thought.

Contains mature themes.

Too much break up not enough love.

Characters spent more time away from each other than they did together. The story was ok, but flawed in my opinion.

Perfect

G Benson is a master at character development as well as weaving stories that wrap around the heart! This is an excellent example of that talent and I highly recommend it.

Liked it but the end felt lacking

I really liked it but the ending was super lacking. It left to many open storylines.

Huge, and good life changes

I was hesitant to read this book because
... affair. I was glad to see that the protagonists got themselves together, got themselves sorted, and got away from the toxicity in their lives. Great topics, including midwifery, social work, trans issues, and all manner of folks. Great story. I recommend.

Excellent story

I can’t get used to Cat Gould’s narration, I like her voice but the way she narrates is not easy on my ears.. but this was a very well written story that helped me to get over the narration.

I enjoyed it

Predictable, but still super cute! A good listen for sure. An affair leads to more WLW

So good

I love the Audible service and the software that runs it. There’s nothing I dislike about it.

excellent performance, frustrating third act

I heard Cat Gould first on secrets we keep and thought her performance was inconsistent. that problem is not here. this is Gould at her best with perfect inflections and distinctive voices for each character. I couldn't get enough of her and listened to this book in 1 day. However... the story itself was frustrating. the first two acts were good and sold me on the world and relationships easily, but act 3 dragged. it largely focuses on the main characters' professional pursuits while affirming, separately, that their relationship was doomed every twenty minutes. this situation, seeing the two girls apart from each other, does not end until there's 15 minutes left. I just like more character engagement in a romance and this book felt like it got tired of being a romance halfway through and became a narrative documentary on two fictional lives.
