About this listen

Five-time Christy Award winner Lynn Austin spins an enthralling, multi-generational tale spanning from 1848 to 1920.

While 20-year-old Harriet is behind bars, she reviews the history of her great-grandmother’s fight against slavery, her grandmother’s crusade against “demon rum,” and her mother’s struggle for women’s suffrage. Now she longs for the courage to leave her own legacy.

My favorite book of Lynn Austin

I loved the way that this book teaches us about God’s word in a story about a fictional family. How we too can apply God’s will for our lives. Very inspiring!

Fabulous book!

I loved this historical fiction novel telling the story of women through history learning life lessons that still apply today. It was thought provoking and hard to turn off until the very end. Lynn Austin never disappoints

Beautiful

At first I felt like this was slow and I was kind of uninterested. Wow am I glad I hung in there. Such a beautiful and inspiring story that I will carry with me always.

Excellent in every way!

I bought this book about a year ago but didn't really think I'd like the subjects much. First, slavery. Second, temperance. Third, suffragettes. I should have known better -- this is, after all, a Lynn Austin story and nothing about her books is ever run of the mill or uninteresting. Turns out I didn't know as much as I thought I did about these subjects. The generations of women in the story were amazing and whose biggest life lesson is reliance on God. Just like me. The narrator was excellent, too. Really gave the characters personality and depth. I think I'll read this one again someday. There's a lot to take in and ponder. Very good!

I enjoyed the story and how it was easy to follow.

Great book that really hit home as I feel I am searching for God's purpose in my life this book glides easily through 4 generations of women finding their purpose in what God would have them do. Loved the book!

Not her best yet worth it!

Lynn Austin seems to be one of my favorite authors. The story line is fair bordering good with one surprising turn. I could easily predict most of it. I do enjoy her character developments. The reader projected a harshness to some characters that made them too dramatic & pretentious. Other than that a read that I followed to the end. I usually give a book 100 pages before I give up & I followed this one to the conclusion.

Excellent!

I enjoyed this story so much that I want to get a paper copy for my small library. There are many lessons a person can take away from this entertaining and enlightening story.

Great reader, well written historical novel t

Because this booked flipped through time a lot, listening to it was challenging at first. The talented reader helped in this regard. The story was riveting, a well spun historical novel. I enjoyed spending several days, including a road trip, with these characters.

Slow start

I actually almost returned this book more than once, but I’m so glad I persisted. It was definitely a slow build, but once it really got into the story I couldn’t stop listening. Great book, great storytelling
