About this listen

A grieving widower. A strong lady. And a little girl who needs them both.

After losing his wife in an accident, Graham Astor, Duke of Kensington, decides that love is not worth the risk of having his heart broken all over again. Even his little daughter he keeps at a distance, afraid to hurt her with the darkness that now lives in his heart. Since he is unable to be the father she deserves, he vows to find her a mother who will heal her little heart.

At a garden party, Graham spots a young woman with a shy smile tending lovingly to her little cousins...and he knows his duty.

As the black sheep of her family, Rosabel Lander has no illusions about love. After her parents' deaths, her aunt and uncle reluctantly took her in, demanding nothing short of complete obedience. Unable to live down her past, Rosabel only wishes for one thing: freedom.

However, before she dares to take the first step toward an independent future, a cold-hearted stranger asks for her hand in marriage...and as the obedient niece, Rosabel cannot refuse.

Will Rosabel find love after all? Or will the memory of Graham's late wife keep them both from finding happiness?

This Beauty and the Beast story by a USA Today best-selling author proves that the past can never be forgotten, but its regrets can be forgiven.

Tense story of 2 really poor communicators

This book might not be everyone's cup of tea. No humor. No action. Just drama. It's basically about people coming to terms with their traumas and insecurities. The main characters have internalized so much and both have developed poor communication patterns because of having to suppress their voices for so long. Nevertheless it's still interesting to watch the female lead find her voice and the male lead face his fears. So I recommend it if you are a listener who can accept the characters' muddling through their interactions because of your full understanding that there were probably very few good therapists during this period of time.

Too Weak and going in circles.

The H/H are just frustratingly going in circles in their relationship. They take one step forward and 5 steps back. The narration is beautiful though. The book would have been excellent if it would have just let them develop normally.

Great find, good clean romance

I was surprised to stumble upon this book. Where had it been when I struggled to find clean romance books with spark! Well written and the narrator was fantastic.

Rosabel means beautiful rose

l listened to the entire book, but I cringed every time the heroine's name was read out. The pronunciation is Rose a bell ...with the emphasis on Rose. Just a suggestion but could all narrators please check pronunciation of slightly unusual names on google.
Most narrators get a few words wrong , but it is not enough to spoil the whole book. This mistake absolutely wrecked it for me.

Long and drawn out

lots of backstory but no explanation to why the characters love each other, either in the past or present. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, and it just didn't.

Good story in the series

The overall premise of the story is good but I find the main characters lacking backbone. The narrator was good enough and was not the best I have listened to but not the worst either. The progression of the story in terms of when they fell in love lacks depth. I was not convinced. I have enjoyed other books from this author more than this one.

Not a “Sweet Historical Romance”

I’m sure there are many, many people who enjoy this book. It’s heartbreaking and poignant throughout, the way that both main characters struggle with their own insecurities and past hurts. However, the obsession each of them have with his dead wife is nothing short of bizarre and, frankly, disturbing. Also, the emotional and physical abuse in several sections may be a trigger for some so just be aware.

Over, Under, And Through

This story takes us on a winding journey through the character development of two insecure souls. From beginning to end, the twists and turns of listening to these two characters develop can leave us frustrated, yet wanting more.
The author is a great tease, which makes this book engaging enough for the readers to want to read to the end. If you love romance, give this book a chance. It takes a while to bring the story to a landing, but the plot is masterfully written.

Clean romance

I liked it. It had a decent and clean story. It was refreshing to not have the male character not be so forceful or demanding all the time. The narrator’s voice was bid too timid and childlike for my taste.
