Publisher's summary

This fast-paced, inspirational narrative reveals how God used one man of great courage, discipline, and humility to bring countless souls to Christ.

God’s accomplishments through George Whitefield are to this day virtually unparalleled. In an era when many ministers were timid and apologetic in their preaching, he preached the gospel with aggressive zeal and undaunted courage. In the wake of his fearless preaching, revival swept across the British Isles, and the Great Awakening transformed the American colonies.

The previous two-volume work George Whitefield: The Life and Times of the Great Evangelist of the Eighteenth-Century Revival is now condensed into this single volume filled with primary-source quotations from the 18th century, not only from Whitefield but also from such prominent figures as John and Charles Wesley, Benjamin Franklin, and William Cowper.

Good Introduction to the Life of George Whitefield

This book condenses a two-volume biography of George Whitefield. In this condensed version, the larger context and nuances of The Great Awakening, his views on slavery and why some crowds were hostile to him are glossed over. The narrative at times seems disjointed. But a good introduction to George Whitefield that should spur one to read his sermons and delve deeper into studying his ministry.

Bob Souer is my favorite narrator and his reading of this book is wonderful.

Very Inspiring

There were some tremendously inspiring moments in this biography. George Whitefield was an amazing preacher, preaching filled the hours of his days. His zeal for the word and the lengths he went to study it before starting his ministry brought literal tears to my eyes. I want to be that devoted to the scriptures.

Whitefield over Wesley!

In many ways the doctrines of grace are properly understood by this author and book. Thank you.

Transformative

It is rare to meet a man that embodies the Spirit of Christ on earth. Pastor Whitefield preached the gospel with his life, single minded focus and willingness to be simply “a servant of all”.
The book was well read and equally exceedingly well written!
The courageous dedication of sincere love, devotion to prayer and the passion for souls cannot be counterfeit - it is the true work of the Spirit of our LORD! Amen and Amen.
