About this listen

Headstrong journalist Anna Rothman knows what suicide looks like - her own husband killed himself five years ago. When Elly Swift, an agitated passenger beside her on a train, leaves a locket in Anna's bag before jumping onto the tracks, Anna starts asking questions. But everything points to suicide and the police close the case.

However, Anna believes that Elly's fears for Toby, her young nephew who was snatched from St. Stephen's church six months ago, fail to explain the true reason behind Elly's distress. Through a series of hidden messages Elly left behind, Anna embarks on a dangerous crusade to track down Toby and find Elly's killer.

But nothing is as it seems and Anna opens a can of worms that throws into question even her own husband's suicide - before the threads of the mystery converge in an astonishing conclusion.

Great plot twists, not so great narration.

About the Audiobook:
The narration was a bit off. You could hear when the recording changed from one take to another. Also it felt a bit flat. It bothered me and affected my experience at the beginning. However, I got used to it after a while.

About the plot:
I have to admit that I didn't expect to get hook as much as I did. The first half was okay, but then the plot twists came and found myself rooting for Elly and Anna more than I thought I would. Great ending.

I really enjoyed this book. It held me captive to it and had an unexpected ending. Good narrator and highly recommend it.

Plot Twists for Dummies

I wanted this to be good, as my first audible purchase.

I ...liked...the beginning as it was an intriguing premise, and props to the author for undertaking the ambitious plot, but the story fell short for my taste as I felt undermined as a reader when the obvious turned out to be exactly what it promised and the missed opportunities play out in your head better than the actual story. I'm sure readers can find something better to listen to in this genre.

When listening, I found no moment where i sincerely felt empathy for Anna, the protagonists, personal turmoil as she was not depicted as likeable person.

Too many times I found myself face palming when a plainly obvious and interesting detail would go ignored or hastily summarized in a rushed quick tie by a supporting character. Resulting in plot "twists" and "A-ha" moments that are either foreshadowed to death or just borderline ludicrous.

Good mystery story, but....

I'm knocking off one star for the politically correct gay stuff, political correctness is offensive.
