Condemned to die upon the sands.
I have been sentenced to death for the crime of being born; of winning the Hasran's war for them. But my death has purchased the freedom of my people, and so I go to it gladly, ready for whatever final torture they might have in mind.
The Imperator has decreed that I will be sacrificed in the Great Games, a sacred ritual that will magically empower the Gateway Arena. It requires five god-souled, the reincarnations of gods, divine shards that can be fed to the Arena, and used to increase its size.
It means my life has narrowed to one purpose: live. Each day I train, and each week I fight harder and harder challenges until I die. For there is no escape, no reprieve. Once the ritual begins it can only end with my death.

Now Sageer the ratkin seems the true MC. Hes becoming an archmage and learning all magics. Saving people, doing what's right and even devoted to his love interest unlik Xal. Also he spends his time learning and making new spells. He keeps up without a Godsoul. He spends every free second learning, reading and training.
So I could see him the true hero of the series .
Like they come to a bookshelf full of super powerful spells and the MC doesnt even glance at them while Sageer takes book after book.
MC in last book had months to learn three spells and couldn't while Sageer learns new ones each day and makes up ones too.
MC is literal farm boy to chosen one cliche with prophecy cliche on top. He never has to work at anything just plot armors into it. From weapons to skills. At most he does a little physical work out that everyone else does too.
So while the story is interesting the MC is getting less and less worthwhile. At this rate he can just stub his toe and cause a avalanche that kills 10 gods and be praised for it.
Who's the true MC?
