Publisher's summary

Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.

A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind’s destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo’s principles of love and justice to free his people.

He must live for more.

the betrayals and plotting

nothing to dislike really, perhaps a bit too much back and forth in the case of relationships.

Amazing

I’m not a writer, so I don’t have all the words to describe every emotions that went through me while finishing this book. 5 times I had to stop because of the tears. Tears of joy. Tears of sadness. Tears of love. Tears of wanting. I can’t stop now. On to book 3!

Well worth extra credit

Great book, great audio. Its more than twice as good as anything else you could hope to find so pay 2 credits for one book. So worth it, hoping they finish the entire series with this format.

True Voice Actors

The cast deserves a digital standing ovation for their work. This is my second time through and they bring human scale emotion to a truly epic saga. Enjoyed almost all of them, but Mustang in particular gave an incredibly nuanced performance that carried all the conflicting emotions her character’s brain would throw into the moment. Incredible.

I see people complain about narrator vs cast but for me it’s not even close. I had a great narrated Red Rising but went back after I figure out the dramatization versions and will own the series that way.

what the hell? (spoilers)

don't read if you don't want the ending spoiled....

stop if you haven't listened the whole thing...

WHAT THE HELL? if the next book wansnt ready idk if I could go on, everyone I liked dead except sevro and mustang (not a huge fan of Darrow as he makes too many dumb mistakes.) Amazing story as usual. Voice acting S tier, simply amazing the VA's put you in the middle of it and makes it feel more like a story you're involved in.

But what the hell? again. Darrow should have let sevro kill the brown. He should have talked with rouke (idk the spelling) how long did it take to travel to mars?.. there was certainly enough time to apologize but the secrets must go on. good gawd. but still worth the listen. pierce brown is an amazing author with an expert hand as detail and analogy.

just needed to vent as the ending was like a shot to the heart. good job Pierce. good job. listening to the next one right away.

Great part 2

This is my first series to listen to with an audio that has a full cast, music, and sound effects. I’ve really enjoyed it so far. All the voice actors have done an excellent job and were cast well. This part 2 of book two was just as invigorating as part one and as book 1, parts 1 and 2. There are a lot of twists and turns and we see a deeper level of many of the characters. I find that some of the sad parts were especially more meaningful in this part of the story as well. The way this book ends really makes the reader need the next book to find out what happens next—I can’t really predict how the story will end, which is the sign of a great writer. Overall, I recommend this book and this series!
