About this listen

*Banished and separated from her son, city-girl Grace has to survive in a cowboy’s world. Maybe it’s time to stop thinking like a lady…and act like a man.*

Banished to the dusty cow town of Misery for an alleged affair, Grace Hendrick wants nothing more than to get her son away from the clutches of his abusive father, Bull, who is back in Chicago. But if she dares to return home, Bull has promised Grace she'll never see their son again. She has no choice but to accept her situation - temporarily. Struggling to figure a way to survive, she refuses to consider prostitution. The hamlet of Misery, however, isn't brimming over with jobs for respectable women. Fueled by hate and desperation, she concocts a shocking plan to find work.

Thad Walker is the middle son of the oldest, most successful cattle baron in Wyoming, and he always puts the ranch first. One chance meeting with Grace Hendrick, though, batters his focus like a hail storm in July. And there couldn't be a worse time to lose his focus with an ugly range war brewing.

A true Western saga written in the the vein of Lonesome Dove and Redeeming Love, truth weaves seamlessly with fiction in Grace be a Lady to deliver a stunning tale of love blossoming in a field of violence.

clean and engaging

A good Christian author who keeps her stories and language clean yet knows how to weave in suspense and engage you in the story. Will definitely listen to this author again.

Narrator needs some finesse.

There’s something about this narrators technique that is annoying. She enunciates the “ed” on a word excessively and it’s distracting!

Another good story but sorry narration.

Any additional comments?

Ms Blanton is a wonderful storyteller. Always keeping my attention with both engaging characters and wonderful storylines. Her Definace series is top notch! However, the performance for this title was awful. Just a few examples, almost every word ending with "ed" became an extra syllable. ????. The word "evening" turned into three, this was pronounced "eve-a-ing. The main male character was nothing of a rugged cowboy! Instead sounded feminine and whimpy. And to top it off the reading was so slooooow. Would have rated five stars if the reader wasn't so very bad. Time for a preformance makeover.

Loved listening to this story. A pleasure to listen to a good Christian story… but if you are not a person of faith.. don't let that stop you from experiencing this story. There is a bit of violence but it is not too graphic. And, there are some smiles and chuckles, too! Happy Reading !!

Love Grace

I love Grace’s determination to survive life as a lady. I didn’t like the husband, but I loved everyone else. I could picture them, as I was listening. The storyline kept me listening.

Freedom in the West

Grace be a Lady is a story of God's grace. Beautiful Grace Hendrick's husband forced her to leave her four year old son in Chicago and go to Johnson County, Wyoming where the cattle and land wars are happening! Thad Walker, the middle son of the most successful cattle baron in Wyoming, catches sight of Grace and is smitten! You will love how Thad's neighbor hires Grace's brother, scrawny Greg Henderson, as a ranch hand and Thad takes him under his wing in order to make an impression on Grace. But perhaps that scrawny ranch hand is not who he seems! Things get complicated for Grace. I enjoyed this book of Love and War in Johnson County and recommend it to others. I won my audiobook in a contest. This is my honest opinion,

I love this story!

Would you listen to Grace be a Lady again? Why?

I probably would listen to it again, but the reader enunciates SO clearly that it seems to drag just a bit, at times. There were a few times when the words almost seemed difficult to understand, because of the enunciation. But she does a really great job on vocalizing the different characters -- you always know which of them is speaking, and it's easy to tell the difference between a speaking character and just narration of the storyline.

What did you like best about this story?

The duplicity Grace was forced to maintain, and the way our author created such a menacing bad-guy.

What does Talmadge Ragan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great character-voices. Really, really great character voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, because it was long.

Any additional comments?

I love Blanton's books, and think that you will, too! Nice stories that end well, but there's plenty of harrowing stuff between the first-page and the last, with plenty of grit and real-life, slightly messy things going on with her characters. They're not all Pollyanna and sunshine, and I appreciate that.
