Parenting never ends.

From the founders of the number one site for parents of teens and young adults comes an essential guide for building strong relationships with your teens and preparing them to successfully launch into adulthood.

The high school and college years: an extended roller coaster of academics, friends, first loves, first break-ups, driver’s ed, jobs, and everything in between. Kids are constantly changing, and how we parent them must change, too. But how do we stay close as a family as our lives move apart?

Enter the co-founders of Grown and Flown, Lisa Heffernan and Mary Dell Harrington. In the midst of guiding their own kids through this transition, they launched what has become the largest website and online community for parents of 15- to 25-year-olds. Now, they’ve compiled new takeaways and fresh insights from all that they’ve learned into this handy, must-have guide.

Grown and Flown is a one-stop resource for parenting teenagers, leading up to - and through - high school and those first years of independence. It covers everything from the monumental (how to let your kids go) to the mundane (how to shop for a dorm room). Organized by topic - such as academics, anxiety and mental health, college life - it features a combination of stories, advice from professionals, and practical sidebars.

Consider this your parenting lifeline: an easy-to-use manual that offers support and perspective. Grown and Flown is required listening for anyone looking to raise an adult with whom you have an enduring, profound connection.

Wish I had read this last year!

This book has a lot of vital information that really helps you and your kids venture onto the next steps after High School. Glad I read it and so much applies now and applied when my son first left.

So she's off to college. What am I going to do?

This story shared a lot of great insight on what to expect from the kids leaving for college and the emotions you would be feeling during this transition

Highly Recommended

I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Every parent of a teen or young adult could benefit from it. If your child is in late MS or early HS years, it’s not too early to read or listen to the book. There is plenty to be gleaned I early on. (I fall into this category , and while I will definitely reference it yearly for details of the parts that don’t apply yet, I’m so glad I read it early on.) If your child is in late HS years, it’s a great time to read or listen to the book, possibly with your child (while he or she is a captive audience in the car, maybe). If your child is in college or working, is still living at home or has moved out, read or listen to the book. There is so much great information in this book for all parents of teens and young adults. And if you’re on Facebook, I recommend joining the Grown & Flown Facebook group. It’s how I first found out about the book, but I’ve also gotten great nuggets of knowledge and wisdom from the group.

Bravo!!!!

This was a blessing to read. As a mother of a freshman in college and a sophomore in high school this book spoke to every topic and more. Thank you ladies for this support group.

Parents with teenagers should read this

I currently have a HS Junior son. My anxiety about all things college for him and myself as his Mom is already rising. This book, in a very non judge mental way, normalized all of the feelings a parent and child might have through this time. It also provided very useful suggestions on preparing yourself and teen for that time, all the way through college. I’m recommending this to my friends!

Hard pass

The constant change in narrators was bad enough. Most of the “advice” sounds like it’s coming from the 70s. Voices are hard to listen to as well. Could not get past the third chapter. I tried several times. Would not recommend.

Overrated

If I met these ladies at a school event- and they started chatting the way this book reads- I would ask if they needed help getting off the pedestal they put themselves on. They come across uptight and holier than thou- mind you- I’ve followed and loved so much about the brand on Social- but the delivery in the audio book was not a fun ride. Wanted to love it, but unfortunately, just could not.
