About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood takes breathless sensuality to thrilling heights in this unforgettable adventure of passion and intrigue.

The Emerald flew across the seas, carrying the pirate Pagan - despised by the ton, whose riches he plundered, and beloved by the poor, whose plight was eased by his gifts.

The Marquess of Cainewood vows to hunt down the pirate wretch in revenge for his brother's death. But when Jade, an enchanting vision of rippling red hair and eyes of jewel-green, appears at his door to beg desperately for his protection, the Marquess agrees to keep her safe from the villains who want her dead. Jade is infuriating, exasperating, and gorgeous; Caine is noble, strong-willed, and powerful. No woman has ever befuddled him so, nor so deeply aroused his desire. But as Jade answers his knowing caresses with an innocent, wild abandon, they are drawn into a web of treachery that will test the very heart of their love!

I purchased this book based on reader’s reviews and am so glad I did. This book actually has a couple of nice twists to it that I did not expect. Certainly made the story more interesting. Again here we have a strong female character and a kind but strong male character as well. Here we have again a woman who is raised by “savages” and turns out to be a great human being just as the last book in the series “The Lion’s Lady”. Wonderful passionate scenes and good storyline make it a nice read. Do women like this really exist back then? I ‘d love to think so. I highly recommend this book.

Another great book by Julie Garwood

I have to admit I accidentally read this series out of order. Guardian Angel was the last book from the series I read. In my opinion this was the best. Jade and Kain were wonderful characters. Some of the banter with all the characters was really humorous. I loved this book and will be rereading.

I forgot what a delight this book was to read. Hearing it on audio was even better. No one does it better than Julie Garwood. All of these character's are a treat. Getting Jade and Christina, from Lyons lady together was really entertaining for me.

Would you listen to Guardian Angel again? Why?

Yes. I liked the two main protagonists and their love story. Both have strong personalities and a sense of confidence that make them a good match and an entertaining couple. The romance was appealing along with the overall story that brings them together and then keeps them together.

What did you like best about this story?

It was entertaining. This is one of my favorites of Julie Garwood's historical romances because she stays consistent with her characterization of her main characters, the story isn't over or underdone, and she throws in humor that makes it all that much more engaging. I also like when the female protagonist isn't too reliant on her male counterpart despite the time period when this is often the expected thing.

Have you listened to any of Susan Duerden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and she continues to not disappoint.

Any additional comments?

This book is great on its own or in combination with some of the other books of the series if you're looking for something of this genre.

Every sentence had the exact same intonation. I eventually was able to ignore it to get through the story. I have always loved Julie Garwood and this one didn't disappoint as far as writing went

Really enjoyed the reading of this book felt like I was a part of the story.

Wonderful Story

Another good read by Garwood. I especially like this one because the heroine is not a simpering miss. She also has problems of her own and the hero has to do some sweet talking to win her over. Character development is also continuing to develop as we meet more people whose lives are intermingled.
