About this listen

Stephen Fry brings the richness of these magical stories to life in the original British recordings, available for the first time in the United States and Canada.

'There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways ... their magical prowess - their daring - their powers of deduction - and, of course, their ability to cope with danger.'

Treat your ears to a performance so rich and captivating you'll imagine yourself in the halls of Hogwarts. Wherever you listen, the unmistakable voice of Stephen Fry is guaranteed to guide you ever more deeply into this magical story and transport you to the heart of the adventure.

The Triwizard Tournament is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter - but that doesn't stop Harry dreaming that he will win the competition. Then at Hallowe'en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is amazed to find his name is one of those that the magical cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, dragons and Dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through - alive!

Theme music composed by James Hannigan.

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Excellent

I only wish this version had been available sooner. So much better than the U.S. version.

Best HP story yet

The story is mature and changes from the previous books somewhat childish stories to one with weight and depth.

The performance by Stephen Frye is excellent!

It was most entertaining

Narrator Stephen Fry — no other will do

The fourth book in the series takes a somber turn, as Harry grows up and encounters challenges that might be beyond adult capacity, let alone a 14-year-old. I don’t want to spoil it for a person who hasn’t yet read the book, suffice to say that this one is a little tougher than the first three in the series. It’s also by far the longest.

The only reason I gave the story 4 stars is that I find the plan cooked up by the “bad guys” to be incredibly complicated and implausible. They certainly are playing a long game, but there are so many moving parts that the thing could easily fall apart.

We all love Rowling. You do, if you’re reading reviews and considering the purchase of this book. But let me tell you that there is an equally compelling reason to buy it.

It’s Stephen Fry.

He is absolutely pitch perfect. He never falters. He has a depth of understanding for each character that allows him to deliver their thoughts and emotions, makes you feel you understand more than just the words.

Very important: he brings Rowling’s playful sense of humor forward. He’s a marvel.

There is one “typo” in the recording, and I’m very fond of it. One letter in one word was either typed incorrectly or read incorrectly and I always listen for it. It gives me a sense of human imperfection even as we try for flawless performance. See whether you can find it.

Fry and Rowling collaborated on these recordings from the moment the first book was released and before the work became what it did. He IS just as important as the written words.

Way better than Jim Dale!

I've always loved Harry Potter but never really cared for the way Jim Dale reads it. Stephen Fry is a breath of fresh air.

Enjoyed this book so much!

I love how the story turned out! So exciting! Especially the tasks and Lord Voldemort rising again! Enjoyed Ron and Hermione’s banters to each other!
