About this listen

When the world of Armageddon is attacked by orks, the Black Templars Space Marine Chapter are amongst those sent to liberate it. Chaplain Grimaldus and a band of Black Templars are charged with the defence of Hive Helsreach from the xenos invaders in one of the many battle zones.

But as the orks' numbers grow and the Space Marines' numbers dwindle, Grimaldus faces a desperate last stand in an Imperial temple. Determined to sell their lives dearly, will the Black Templars hold on long enough to be reinforced, or will their sacrifice ultimately be in vain?

Black Templars at their finest.

A story of sacrifice and courage in a universe where there is only war.

Black Templar Space Marine fans will enjoy this read - well worth the time and coin.

Helsreach

Truly a masterfully told tale and one of the best sci-fi novels ever written. Jonathan Keeble is a perfect narrator as always. A must-listen for 40k fans and an equally enjoyable starting point for those new to Warhammer 40,000

My friend was right to pressure me into listening to this

Just a great story all around, has everything you hope a 40k novel would and the narrator does a great job making sure you know exactly which character is speaking.

Feels will be had

You know there’s no hope for any the poor souls of Helsreach. However, Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s amazing writing and Jonathan Keeble’s stellar performance will slip past whatever emotional barriers you’ve constructed and rip your heart out regardless. It’s one hell of a wild ride.

Excellent Story!

Kind of a slow start for a Space Marine story, but great nonetheless. It is a great look into the minds of a Reclusiarch. I've always liked the Chaplains so it is cool to hear a story with the main protagonist as one.

Bleak and action packed. Warhammer in a nut shell.

This book opens up with the main character telling you he is going to die. The real story is how he conducts himself with that knowledge. His frustrations, his doubts, and his anger all rolled up and fighting against his feelings of Duty and Honor. There is also the wrecking non-human booty in the name of the Imperium. Action packed and gripping, you feel for the characters. I hope gameswork shop puts out more 40k content. This was great!

Amazing

This story encapsulates all the best aspects of the Warhammer40k genre. Reaching deeply into the thoughts of the Legio Astartes while moving seemlessly from first to third person. The action scenes are exciting without dominating the story. The supporting characters range from tragic to humorous. I have read dozens of Warhammer/Black Library books- Horus Heresy and numerous additional fiction books, of all them, this tale is one of my favorites. Also note that this was made into a Youtube animated movie of the same name.

perfect for jumping right in

The book was amazing. some of the voices are odd but that is also what makes it 40k. if you jump right in without knowing anything, some of the terminology will be difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it quick when it is just a name for something that rarely gets used. amazing book 5 stars
