Tracy Crosswhite returns in the second book in the page-turning series by New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni.
Homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite has returned to the police force after the sensational retrial of her sister’s killer. Still scarred from that ordeal, Tracy is pulled into an investigation that threatens to end her career, if not her life.
A serial killer known as the Cowboy is killing young women in cheap motels in North Seattle. Even after a stalker leaves a menacing message for Crosswhite, suggesting the killer or a copycat could be targeting her personally, she is charged with bringing the murderer to justice. With clues scarce and more victims dying, Tracy realizes the key to solving the murders may lie in a decade-old homicide investigation that others, including her captain, Johnny Nolasco, would prefer to keep buried. With the Cowboy on the hunt, can Tracy find the evidence to stop him, or will she become his next victim?

Tracy Crosswhite is a Seattle police detective leading a task force hunting for a serial killer of young women who dance at strip clubs. A man has already been convicted of the first murder and is in prison. Crosswhite's boyfriend (Dan, her close friend when she was growing up and is now a successful lawyer) takes on the case of the innocent man imprisoned for the first of the serial murders.
Emily Sutton-Smith does a great job of narration.
I highly recommend this book but suggest that My Sister's Grave be read first.
Great psychlogical and police thriller!

This one kept me turning pages, unable to put it down. And there was a huge twist at the end I didn't see coming. I actually sat there stunned momentarily as I tried to comprehend what just happened. Not only do we learn more about Tracy in this book, but also her boyfriend, Dan O'Leary. I enjoyed reading how their bond became closer as Dan begins helping Tracy investigate her case. He's always there for her no matter what. I also enjoyed Tracy's interaction with the killer at the end. It was top notch and brought everything to a satisfying conclusion. Definitely recommend you try this one. It can be read as a standalone but the series is so good you should listen to them all.
Emily Sutton-Smith was outstanding with the delivery of the story

My only real issue is with the main character Tracy. Just like I thought her actions were unrealistic and implausible, but no one took easy steps to stop her in the first book in the series - My Sister's Grave -- I thought they were in this book as well. In Her Final Breath my problem stemmed from her relationship with her Captain and the fact that the Chief of the Seattle Police Department's career seemed to hang on Tracy's actions. Dugoni attempted to explain why her Captain hates her so much in a prequel novella that takes place prior to the first book. But his animosity is so palpable and obvious that it seems unlikely a male Captain could get away with this today, especially since he was so public in his intentional attempts to undermine her and put roadblocks in her way to solve a crime everyone wants solved. He was almost a caricature he was so obvious and dated. And she seemed to get away with ignoring him.
There is enough good in this book to overlook the fact that the main character seems to make stupid decisions, no one stops her even though they could easily enough, they lead to a disaster, but she comes out unscathed.
The narration was very good.
Good Book but Lead Character Still Unrealistical
