About this listen

The war is heating up.

Fresh off their first major victory against the Nyctus, the Orbital Navy is moving forward in confusion. Starcasters, led by Thorn Stellers, are not trusted - magic has not replaced the power of steel and naval might, and humanity is at a crossroads.

As Thorn and Kira define their roles in the new navy, magic refuses to stay still. When Thorn discovers he has untapped power, Mol Wyant helps him use it. The results will change every rule, along with the known galaxy, for Thorn Stellers isn’t just a magician of unknown power. He’s a weapon of undiscovered fury.

With Kira, Mol, and a salty captain, Thorn will push the edge of warfare into something new. Something wild and deadly - a threat the Nyctus could never have predicted. Using his power like a sword, Thorn carves open the first path to victory, using sorcery of such terrifying strength that it challenges the laws of physics. But at what cost? Can his crew trust him, knowing he can change the nature of space and time? Can he even trust himself?

The battle for tomorrow begins today.

Great

Loved it and the narrator was a very good story teller and I felt like I was part of the story.

Great follow-up to 1st book

I like this series so far (2 audiobooks in). The story does not have as much snark and juvenile humor as most JN Chaney offerings. I like that. The narrator was great - except for his mispronouncing the name of the ship Hecate. It is named after the Greek Goddess of magic & witchcraft; the correct pronunciation would be ‘He-kuh-tee’. Really dumb not to have that fixed!

Great Series

I usually fall asleep listening to books. Since beginning this series I've had little sleep. It has a great plot full of intrigue and characters you connect with. I need to wait to start book 3 so I can get some work done. I am recommending this series to family and friends.

Book 3 on the way.

Took a chance on the free first book. Got the second book before I finished the first. Just got book 3 and can’t wait to get started.

Couldn’t put it down... figuratively

I reviewed the first book and will do this one too. I loved it. I must admit I haven’t found a book or series from JN that I didn’t like, but I’m still new to Terry M. At first I was a little concerned as the story didn’t seem to advance, but that changed after a few chapters in.

Pros:
- love the narratorhe does a great job with the protagonist, but probably needs a little practice on female genders lol.
- I enjoyed the story. They seemed to keep it fresh and avoided well worn tropes. I thoroughly enjoyed getting some more perspective from the enemy side and seeing secondary characters given the chance to shine.
Cons:
- I lost track of the tiertiary characters names and struggled to remember who is who from the first go around. There were characters I thought dead, but might be alive if I’m assigning them correctly.
- there is a time jump from book 1 and it’s not made entirely clear until well into the book. We left off with the group heading out to complete missions but when we start book two it’s as if none of that happened. It’s referenced later in the book and I was able to determine this but I was confused for a few chapters.

All in all I enjoyed the book and would recommend it. I think it’s a fun story and I’m always wanting more.
