Your next stay-up-all-night thriller, about identical triplets who have a nasty habit of killing their boyfriends, and what happens when the youngest commits their worst crime yet: falling in love with her mark.
Make him want you.
Make him love you.
Make him dead.
Sissy has an...interesting family. Always the careful one, always the cautious one, she has handled the cleanup while her serial killer sisters have carved a path of carnage across the US. Now, as they arrive in the Arizona heat, Sissy must step up and embrace the family pastime of making a man fall in love and then murdering him. Her first target? A young widower named Edison—and their mutual attraction is instant. While their relationship progresses, and most couples would be thinking about picking out china patterns and moving in together, Sissy’s family is reminding her to think about picking out burial sites and moving on.
Then something happens that Sissy never anticipated: She begins to feel protective of Edison, and before she can help it, she’s fallen in love. But the clock is ticking, and her sisters are growing restless. It becomes clear that the gravesite she chooses will hide a body no matter what happens; but if she betrays her family, will it be hers?

Critic reviews
"A triumph… Mark my words: Ren DeStefano—who has achieved a distinctness of voice and vision that is quite rare—is both an author to watch and a name to remember.” —Criminal Element
“This deceptive thriller opens as a chilling, dispassionate chronicle of murderous triplets devoted to their chosen craft and each other, but it evolves into a twisted love story as layers of loneliness, self-sacrifice, and competing loyalties surface. Readers will find that this sneakily heart-wrenching story lingers with them after Sissy’s final words.” —Booklist (starred review)
“When it comes to carefully concealed sociopathy, the fascinating protagonist in DeStefano’s adult debut gives Gone Girl’s Amy Elliott a run for her money. Combine this with a cleverly crafted plot that delivers ingenious twists, and you have a novel that will stun readers.” —Library Journal (starred review)

This was such a perfect beach read! I loved this fast paced page turner from start to finish, and was so intrigued by the premise of sisters who make it their mission to kill off their boyfriends.
The pacing was great and I found myself a fan of these likeable sisters once I found out their backstory and motives.

I will say the people in my book club enjoyed the book more than I did.
I just couldn’t get past a lot of the logic. The first kill was so easily avoidable and in general, there are easier ways to kill men.
I also didn’t like how the protagonist is frequently attempted to be framed as the “good one”. I just kept rolling my eyes. I personally consider the person that helps plans and covers up the murder just as guilty as the actual murderer.
And I got it. The sisters are super close. I was reminded throughout the whole book and given many flashbacks to how awesomely close they are. I skipped through a couple of them.
I recently read The One that also has a serial killer in it so that’s probably what hurt this book. The serial killer in that book actually felt like one and was much more believable.

The narrator was fantastic and somehow managed to make the triplets sound different enough that you know exactly who is speaking when. She also really nails the calm, sensual violence of Sissy specifically such that the character gave me chills a few times. I enjoyed going along for the ride with these ladies for a while. This will be a book I re-listen to over and over.
