About this listen

Maggie Olsen had a pretty ordinary childhood - swimming and sleepovers, movie nights and dad jokes. But then there were the other things...the darker things...the shadow that followed her home from the cemetery and settled into the corners of her home, refusing to let her grow up in peace.

Now, after three years of being away from the place she's convinced she inadvertently haunted, and after yet another family tragedy strikes, Maggie is forced to return to the sweltering heat of a Savannah summer to come to terms with her past. All along, she's been telling herself it was just in your head, and she'd nearly convinced herself that she'd imagined it all. But the moment Maggie steps into the foyer of her family home, she knows. The darkness is still there. And it's been waiting for Maggie's return....

Great Story, Aweful Narration

Have been a fan of Ania Ahlborn for years & her haunting story lines are great so I give this an overall of 4 stars. The narrator was what killed the story. I hung on as long as I could, but after 2/3 through, I finally gave up on the audio & finished it up on Kindle. .

Loved the book, not the reader.

I love all of Ania’s works but the reader on this one wasn’t it for me. Very little depth in the way she reads it started to feel almost monotone. Loved the experience and the story but I was a little put off by the tone of the narrator.

i call upon thee!

4.5

i loved this book! I could relate so much to Brynn, well during my teenage years at least. i guess i should apologize to my little sister for always trying to scare her and making her watch scary movies (she doesn't like them now). All the characters were great in their own way. The story was great and i really loved the ending. if your looking for something scary to read for Halloween, this is IT!
the only reason i didn't give this a 5 star rating is that i felt near the end, things got a little messy. maybe i zoned out for a minute or something, i don't know.

would have preferred to read

i enjoyed the story as any Ahlborn I've read but the narrator took away the slow burning creepiness I get when I read her tales.

Creepy and Delicious

It’s a slow burn . It makes you doubt what you think . It makes you believe Maggie for a bit . It confuses and befuddles . It’s tense and stressful. It’s a tasty morsel of an audible book that is creepy and well written as well as wonderful to hear.

Worth the read

I loved the performance and I thought this book was chilling and disturbing in a good way! There are few books I have listened to that I like more than this one!!! Definitely a favorite

Eh....

I've become a HUGE fan of Ania Ahlborn. But this isn't the best story I've listened to. It was slow to start and I wasn't very impressed with the narrator. Not as creepy and on the edge of your seat like other books. But I'll keep listening, because I really do like the author!

meh

I liked the premise, but the fact that the narrator did not know how to say ouija or Reagan (from the exorcist) left a little to be desired. I mean she said "we-jah" every time and for a ouija center horror book you can imagine how many times the word appears. idk maybe she is from the UK but nothing else was said with an accent and ahe was portraying a character from the south in American sooo. The story should have had a bit more punch. And I liked the ending even though it felt rushed. It was ok for a short read but I would recommend it to anyone who likes real horror.

Great story but...

For some reason when the narrator mispronounced common words, it distracted me from the story.
