About this listen

Police officers shot

Detective Michael Bennett arrests an infamous Mexican crime lord in a deadly chase that leaves Bennett's lifelong friend, Hughie McDonough, dead. From jail, the prisoner vows to rain epic violence down upon New York City - and to get revenge on Michael Bennett.

Judges murdered

To escape the chaos, Bennett takes his 10 kids and their beautiful nanny, Mary Catherine, on a much-needed vacation to his family's cabin near Newburgh, New York. But instead of the calm and happy town he remembers from growing up, they step into a nightmare worse than they could have ever imagined. Newburgh is an inferno of warring gangs, and there's little the police - or Bennett - can do to keep the children safe.

Target: Michael Bennett

As violence overwhelms the state, Bennett is torn between protecting his hometown and saving New York City. A partner in his investigations, federal prosecutor Tara McLellan brings him new weapons for the battle - and an attraction that endangers his relationship with Mary Catherine.

A no-holds-barred, pedal-to-the-floor, action-packed novel, Michael Bennett is James Patterson at his most personal and most thrilling best.

James Patterson has redeemed himself!

What did you love best about I, Michael Bennett?

The writing and story was tight. Unlike some of his recent collaborations, it was seamless. This story was exciting, more exciting, and very exciting to the very end! I look forward to the next Michael Bennett story, #6!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Michael Bennett. He is vulnerable.

Which scene was your favorite?

No comment. Don't want to give the story away!

Any additional comments?

I hope James Patterson will be collaborating with Michael Ledwidge for the next book in this series. This story had great writing, fast action, lots of suspensel, and a terrific ending.

Cliff Hanger

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, especially if you are into the Michael Bennett series. The book is action packed and full of Michael Bennett's sense of humor and no nonsense approach to law breakers. If the listener is just picking up a book without keeping the series in mind, I think they will be disappointed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of I, Michael Bennett?

The ending of the book definitely leaves the reader hanging and since it's the ending, it is very memorable. Not sure how much I liked this as I felt not enough solution to the conflict was made before ending the book.

What does Bobby Cannavale and Jay Snyder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I just love audiobooks, and when narrators can change their voices enough that you can automatically tell who is talking, then I'm hooked and going to listen to that narrator again. These narrators are very good about setting the stage with their tone, inflection and variety.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The loss of friends and innocence in this book were moving. When Michael's long time friend is killed and the book takes the reader/listener to the wake, the scene is made real.

Any additional comments?

Generally, I really like this series, but I was let down with the ending this time.

Intriquing as always

Any additional comments?

I have followed Michael and his family all the way and have enjoyed every moment. This book did not disappoint. The "WHAT?" ending will make for a very interesting next novel. There were some unexpected moments, as always with Michael, and the suspense kept me listening. Waiting for the next book so we can find out what is going on.

Who wants a cliffhanger novel???

I like stories that have an ending. This one just stopped like a soap opera. The only thing missing was the voice over that says, "tune in next week" or music that just fades out. I would never buy an audio book that ended that way without the conclusion, listed as book 2 , with the final chapters in hand. What is John Patterson thinking? I am disappointed!

Best Michael Bennett book of the series, thus far

The story is well thought out and not cliché-filled like the previous books. Great narration too.

It's almost like he wrote it himself

Would you listen to I, Michael Bennett again? Why?

Patterson has been soooo inconsistent lately...I wish he would stop co-authoring and get back to the stories like he started with. With this story it's almost like it was just him again. The twists and turns that he throws at his hero.get him into trouble at work and at home. That allows for a good story across the board.

UM.... why would he end the story here???

What was most disappointing about James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge ’s story?

Where is the rest of the story? Its like literally listening to a 2 part book and getting only the first part... I hate that....
