About this listen

After being sucked through a dark and mysterious portal while walking his dog, Jerry finds himself in a magical duel to the death. With the help of an ancient and unknowable force, Jerry finds a way to interact with the magic of the new world as if it were a game. Using this new power, he sets out to save as many fellow abductees as possible before they are murdered by this new world’s vicious inhabitants.

I don’t know how long I’ve been sitting at this particular desk. However, what I do know is that my boredom is about to come to an end. The tides of chaos have changed, rifts have opened to other worlds, and unless I miss my guess, nothing will ever be the same. Within the day, a new lord will come to power, and in his path, nations will burn.

A breath of fresh air

This book is fantastic. Combine a little world building with magic mixed with technology and modern tactics. This is a must have!

Story versus crutchiness fonding the balance

This is one of those times Where author concentrates on the story sorry this could be a great litrpg But unfortunately for those of us who like catching us The author who does amazing job on the story chooses to concentrate on That's in passing talk about video game numbers but there In passing Another concentrate on the story then but if you want your crush is this not very much

I recommend you give this new series of shot

Right up front I enjoyed the story, and I will be continuing on to the sequel. That being said, a little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor, to say the least. The story is well written in my opinion. The only criticism that I have for the author is that in certain places it feels like there could have been a little more connective tissue for lack of a better description between scenes. This is the first book from this author that I have come across. I actually do have the second one already queued up and ready to go once I'm finished with this review. The story follows a number of characters throughout. The main character who shows up in the blurb is Jerry, a gentleman with a master’s in computer science and a minor in economics. Jerry is abducted with his dog Rufus who gains the ability to talk in this new world he's been summoned to (Planet Komar). Unlike some other portal stories, he's not the only human brought to this new world. A world that is rife with corruption, racism, and a substantial amount of brutality. Jerry finds himself summoned into the middle of a battle. His Summoner was attempting to bring forth a demon. In fact, every Summoner appears to have been intending to bring forth a demon, but something has happened that has in the words of the book changed the zip code and the beings being summoned are humans from earth. There are evil priests who are torturing the new arrivals. Some claiming that the freshly arrived earthlings, or as our cohort of heroes would prefer to be called Terrans, are simply demons in human disguise. We also get chapters for Tim a marine yanked out of a jail cell who becomes a warlord barbarian bent on eradicating the evil priests and rescuing abductees which he does alongside Jerry for a while. We've got Cynthia who is a native of the world and possibly an apprentice for Jerry. We have Uzaki, A hobgoblin who appears to have become Jerry's captain of the guards. Lastly, one of the characters that I enjoyed the most is Helga, who is rescued by Tim at some point and ends up in a position that may be of great assistance to Jerry. I do wonder whether the author will continue to write from the point of view of as many characters in sequels, but I think he's got a pretty solid cast here. Moving on to the narration team as this is a dual narrated story, we have Marcus Jahn and Alyssa Poon from Actors Everywhere. I have enjoyed their performances several times in the past and their work with this story was no less impressive. Finally, I'll just say thank you to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us the audible listeners and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Nice

Good book and author keeps you engaged in it. Jerry is a very likeable character and Rufus the dog is amazing.

i really liked it

This book was really good. Now that that's said let's get into the cons.

the "leveling" system in this book is really strange, it's not like a litrpg. They use phones and have some thing called a modification stone. Even at the end of the book I kinda was confused on how the system worked. Now at the start of the book I thought the narrator was good but as it went on he just became more and more annoying. He had some really corny and overexaggerated voices. That's what made him a good narrator at first because most books don't have narrators like him. This book is really corny too lol. it's not something bad but it's certainly something worth adding.

pros. I really liked the premise of this book. The mc gets pulled to a world where priests and slavery is normal. So basically this book is about a mc saving people from priests and getting stronger. The characters in this book are really unique too, with the voices and how they act there kinda like anime characters. The fighting is also really good and detailed. I also like how the mc has some responsibility and knows how to handle it. (Spoilers) I also knew that tim wasn't gonna stay, it seemed like he didn't wanna have a "king" or a leader. (end of Spoilers)

This book was really good and I'll think you'll like it too. I also will say this, Alyssa poon was the best narrator in this book hands down. She was a godsend in this book and really smoothed out the other narrators. Just too put in perspective how corny the other two voices were. imagine playing dnd and you have a wizard and a rogue and you have a generic voices for those classes. Than imagine that exaggerated to the max.

The Narration was bearable, So yes the Narration was the worst part of this book. everything else was good and I really enjoyed this book.

Good start!

Very interesting concept.
I like the main character including his dog.

Didn't really expect the multi-POV, but it kinda works.
As I've read a lot of LITPGs, this is a welcome alternative which is still relatively close.

Dual narration is always awesome, I am a fan of Alyssa Poon and she didn't disappoint. Marcus was a lot stronger in this one compared to other books I've listened to.

I wasn't expecting that

This was a surprisingly good story. I wasn't expecting the overall direction this story took. Really pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to book 2. Now for the not so good...I'm not a fan of Marcus Jahn's narration style. However, I can't do any better so this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. I love Alyssa Poon though and her voices really bring the ladies to life.

Fun story

This story is a great way to spend several hours, Alyssa's performance fit the characters well, however Marcus's performance for some characters seems a bit too flamboyant. other than that it's a great listen.
