About this listen

Following the lead of Florence Nightingale, Steve’s partner in Eternity, he has returned to Hell to ease the suffering of the Damned. Yet Steve is faced with a dilemma. What can he do that will offer more than a brief respite from everlasting torment? And how can he make it funny at the same time?

In Steve’s search for meaningful employment in the Afterlife, he has one comic misadventure after another. Along the way, he meets a few new angels and a couple of saints. He even learns what may be one of the great secrets of the universe...or maybe not.

And all the while, something’s bothering him. Too many people who have been consigned to Hell just don’t seem to belong there. Steve is determined to find out why, whether Satan likes it or not.

Especially if Satan doesn’t like it. After all, Steve is no angel. He’s a little bit good, a little bit bad, and a whole lot of trouble!

I’m No Angel Is the fifth volume in the satire/fantasy comedy series, Circles in Hell. It has been compared to other works of "hell fiction" including The Screwtape Letters and Good Omens and to the paranormal humor of Tom Holt, Christopher Moore, and Douglas Adams.

These books are great

Would you listen to I'm No Angel again? Why?

Absolutely! I have listened to the other books multiple times and have enjoyed them each time.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like all the characters very much. But, I think my favorite character is Beelzebub. Yes he is a prince devil but the character has integrity and, I think, he likes Steve Minion more than he lets on.

What does Michael Gilboe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Gilboe has a tremendous speaking style. The different voices he uses for the characters are excellent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

He may be saved but he still likes to raise some Hell.

Any additional comments?

I took a chance on reading the first book, "Hell's Super". Thankfully I enjoyed the book so much that I immediately purchased the second book "A Cold Day in Hell". From that point on I was hooked. I assumed after the fourth book, "The Reluctant Demon", the sage of Steve Minion was over. To my surprise, and relief, Mr. Cain wrote the fifth book.

I was able to get in contact with Mr. Cain and he said more Circle of Hell books will be coming out. That was great news and I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Mark Cain...please keep up the good work and write one of the books about the Dweebles.

Very fun read!

Another fun and hilarious story. All the characters are very amusing, all of the time. The narrator is great, I think his performance is perfect. To fully appreciate this book, you have to read the previous 4, but they are all well worth it. I love the series and hope it continues!

I love this series.

I love this series. I’m hooked. I’m hoping that the author continues on in the lives (afterlives) of Steve and Florence. Each character is so detailed and imaginative, my absolute favorite being BOOH.

For BZ's sake, listen to this book!

Where does I'm No Angel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Josh here

-I've mentioned this in other reviews I've left and discussions I've had across the web. This series is easily in my top 5 favorite series of all time. The unique story line combined with a witty sense of humor and an outstanding narrator make this an enjoyable listen, and one which I plan to partake in again, from start to finish, very soon. From the series perspective, this book was easily my favorite as it puts Steve in a very new position where he actually has some ability for positive influence down below, as well as above. Without ruining the story, I will say that I feel Steve has finally found his niche after serving as one of the damned for so long

What was one of the most memorable moments of I'm No Angel?

Oh, this is an easy one. The moment where Steve and Lilith reunited for the first time brought a genuine smile to my face. And no, not from a "hey, she is a hot succubus" perspective, but from the vantage point that Lilith was one of the major influences on Steve during his time as Hell's Super.

What about Michael Gilboe’s performance did you like?

Michael did an absolutely outstanding job with his performance in this series, and this entry in it was no exception. His ability to diversify the voices of each character enough to make them memorable definitely contributed to a very enjoyable story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again, without spoiling the series, I feel that the impact BZ had towards the final moments in the storyline was another truly emotional twist. BZ and Steve's relationship throughout the series is one which I have found myself drawn to, and this entry definitely cinched it for me. The big foam finger was a very nice touch and it really showcased BZ's nature as the Lord of the Flies.

Any additional comments?

I have to say that I was taken aback when Michael was introduced into the storyline. As an archangel that is highly revered throughout various religions, I was rolling when he first came into the picture. Well played, Mr. Cain, well played indeed. This is a fantastic series but I will assume you already know that if you are looking at book five's reviews. If not, go pick up the first entry and start now. You will not regret it. Mark has a real winner here.

Such a fun series.

I have really enjoyed this series. I found it shopping for box sets, and although there were some reviews that did not like it there were many that enjoyed the humor. So I decided to give it a try. It's a stitch you'll love it.
You need to start from the beginning when Steve is the super to hell. His sidekick is Orson Welles, and he befriends many other people down there like Tesla and Edison and Braille. Florence Nightingale is also down there bringing respite to the tortured souls. Give it a chance if you're looking for something different. It has mysteries to solve, love, romance, non graphic kinky sex, hahahaha, horror kind of, it is based in hell after all.

It's light it's funny it's naughty but just a little bit. Of course it's about hell it has to be just a little bit naughty.

If you're a straight laced Square you probably won't enjoy it but you probably wouldn't be looking at this type of book anyway.

When I Go, I Want To Be With Minion!

My wife and I really enjoyed this series! We listened to it while traveling and it really made the time go by. The production was great, the characters were totally engaging, and the action was easy to follow. The author's irreverent humor was refreshing. I highly recommend this whole series for a rollicking good time.

Another great addition to the Hell's Super series!

Would you consider the audio edition of I'm No Angel to be better than the print version?

Yes

What about Michael Gilboe’s performance did you like?

The variety of voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes and I did.

Any additional comments?

Well Minion is back! Another fun adventure through the levels of Hell with all our old friends Steve, Flo, Beezy, BOOH, Otis, Orson, Edison, Peter and Satan. This is a great addition to the series that just continues with creative, humorous ways to tick off Satan. Fans of the series will enjoy this new phase in Steve Minon's afterlife. If you have not read this series, what's stopping you? Get on it.
