Publisher's summary

Legatus Sedarious Kull is in custody. His fate is sealed. Until he makes an offer that changes everything....

Pelegrin Hale and Orelia Pendaline have their arch nemesis, Sedarious Kull, in plasma binders and dead to rights. But when Kull offers them a way to rescue more excreants in the Imperium sector while also getting revenge on the Supreme and Qweelin Mink, they at least pause to consider their options.

However, when Kull threatens to murder Hale's former colleague, Hale and Orelia must release their nemesis.

The situation reaches fever pitch when Sillix discovers the prisoner's presence. It's all anyone can to do to keep the assassin from slaying Kull. And then it's up to Rim Fellows to see the Stratus commander safely on his way. But not before taking out some insurance.

With Kull in the wind, the Valorious rebels are forced to make new plans.

Hale must seek out the sage Pi Tae to master his newfound abilities. Meanwhile, Orelia decides to return to the planet that almost got her killed.

Will Orelia be able to secure enough weapons and transportation to free more refugees? Can Hale survive the dangerous training that awaits him? Or will Kull intervene and strike down the rebel cause before it has a chance to grow?

this is what Hollywood doesn't understand

The writing, the production, the cast (of one), the fun. This is what "they" don't understand. The story told here is Better than nearly anything on TV or at the Cinema right now! Enjoy the ride!

Awesome universe

I love this story with its eclectic cast of goodies and baddies. Reminds me of Star Wars a little.

Two words: Murder Snail!

Christopher Hopper’s sci-fi series Imperium Descent continues to wow and amaze me. Packed with military space warfare, ground fighting, o and that character development and occasional mushy stuff, heck it even has some interesting plot twists, all in all book V won’t disappoint! O, and Watch out for the murder snail!

Exceptional – up there with Asimov and Clarke!

Book V of Imperium Descent picks up immediately from the events of Book IV, with Hale, Dell and Orelia trying to subdue an enraged Sillix who is resolute in her determination to kill Sedarious Kull for what he did to her and her Family. Whilst Hale and Dell manage to remove Kull and escape, Orelia must deal with the wrath of Sillix.
Kull has put the Rebel leadership in a difficult position, offering them not only information on other locations of Excreants on planets that need liberating. Kull also has Hale’s former Stratus friend, whom he originally found the first Excreant location and found the first planet stone, Brin Noragga, held captive and if Kull isn’t released by a certain time, Brin is dead.
This sets in motion several different story arcs for book 5.
Hale must continue his training with mysterious Master Sage, Pi Tae. However, he also has to find his friend Brin. Along with this, it has been discovered that the former safe have set up with the Soothmin, is no longer safe as the Stratus are aware of its location. To this end, the former Excreants, now free people, move to Trion, at the base of the ruins of the Last Gate.
Amazingly, a lot of this occurs with not only the help of Veepo, but Rim Fellows, who continues to come through for the Rebels. Whilst he seems to stick his hand out for financial gain, it is not always the case, and he continues to be there for the Rebels regardless.
As the new base is settled, and Hale works with Pi Tae, a new operation is planned to rescue a group of Rebels and Excreants that find themselves under threat on the planet of Fina.
This is again, another brilliant episode in the saga, with multiple story lines unfolding, as we follow Orelia and Dell, and eventually Hale, in their desperate attempt to save these Rebels on Fina from the clutches of the Stratus. The story also follows Hale as he attempts to understand the new powers that have been granted to him, under the tutelage of the Master Sage. This is both fascinating, and hilarious as Hale tries to follow Pi Tae’s teachings. Choocheek, his little lizard companion is still one of the best characters in the book.
Book V is a mix of battles that are reminiscent of Empire Strikes Back and epic character stories that continue to tell the lives of our main characters and multiple minor characters as we watch an Empire slowly tear itself to pieces.
Kull has taken his loyal forces and separated from the Stratus, and is now rogue, bringing civil war to part of the Imperium. This on top of a major uprising of Rebels and Excreants throughout the galaxy thanks to Hale’s call to arms following the events on Kaletto.
The Character work continues to be exceptional, from the Rebel leadership, Hale, the reluctant hero, trying to understand a power that he does not feel he is worthy of. Orelia, the former Princess, feeling that lost, but desperate to help those she feels responsible for, feeling a bit resentful she was not chosen for the powers Hale has, but coming to realise she might have abilities of her own. Dell, the elite soldier whose loyalty makes him the perfect friend, and his humour, the perfect character in a story like this.
Sedarious Kull is brilliant as the Rogue Stratus, utterly disappointed with The Supreme and his weak leadership, and wanting to bring him down. Meanwhile, Qweelin Minx has replaced Kull has leader of the Stratus, and is trying to prove herself.
Imperium Descent V continues the captivating and thrilling lives of these characters in what is a galaxy that rivals all the classics, Hopper’s story is on the scale of Asimov’s Foundation – and should not be missed!!
Christopher Hopper has a brilliant voice for Narration, you can listen to him for hours, his voice is clear, concise and very easy to listen to. He provides a great set of both male and female character voices, as well as a great range of alien voices. It is not just the voices though, it is the emotional content and the voice acting that makes this narration such an incredible performance. Hopper’s ability to convey how the character is feeling at that point in time is outstanding, as he really connects you with the raw emotions of the character, and you feel the gritty authenticity of that character. Given that this is his work he is Narrating to, he understands the motivation of each of his characters, and can really put that into his Narration, and this comes out in his voice acting.
This is such an exceptional performance from someone who is so new to the craft, Hopper is equal to the greats in this area such as Bray and Porter. This is an absolute MUST LISTEN – it is well worth listening to this rather than reading, as it is just so well done!!!
