About this listen

Commit an online crime, go to an online jail. In this MMORPG penal colony, inmates PVP to gain EXP, loot, and most of all...survive.

Seph has been sentenced to play in one of these virtual correctional facilities. Sounds fun right? Maybe for some, but there is no worse punishment for Seph, mostly because he isn't a gamer. Will he be able to complete his sentence with all the trials and objectives thrown at him? Trapped in a virtual world he cannot escape, Seph now has to step outside of his comfort zone and align himself with the very thing he's been rebelling against his whole life - the system.

Sick of the same old LITRPG tropes? Try something different with this character-driven story.

I'm really trying to get through this. it takes almost half the book to get into the game and then the m.c. just keeps getting worse and worse.
the game mechanics are ok. pretty fun but the m.c. kinda ruins it.

I'm really trying to get into it

little different then other litRPGs. story is well written with a cool universe/ game line. only thing that was a little annoying was calling stuff racist or hinting at it being for dumb reasons. same with how naive the mc is.

narration is done well

looking forward to the next book

enjoyable story

this book from a seemingly unknown author to the genre really surprised me, the origin story, the gaming systems and character development were all spot on. the stats weren't as crunchy as some but crunchy enough to be entertaining and meaningful, and the way the author incorporates pvp and griefinng is perfect. the protagonist doesn't whine or wimper about getting ganked and killed and the author didn't make pvp the enemy like so many authors do giving their characters supercharged unrealistic abilities to somehow smash the pker. he treats it like it's just part of the game that you have to deal with and out smart not something to try and demonize and fetish kill. and I love that. great read 5 out of 5 can't wait for book 2

one of the best most original litrpg of 2019

I loved it. The only issue I had was the narrator was a female in the main character was male.

The author provides a bleak view of the futuristic world devoid of human interaction. I found the narrators voice to be pleasant and despite being a book about a male MC being read to me by a female narrator the vocal ranges and personality injected into the characters allowed me full immersion into the story. The MC made me cringe so many times making newb mistakes that only a non gamer could pull off. The side chars were believable and very realistic of the types of other gamers one would run into if stuck in the scenario. TY for the excellent brain candy during my corona imprisonment.

Moogie

Seriously, I've heard a lot of LITRPG's. They're all the same overpowered, arrogant, zero challenge story.
NOT this one. It's different. Refreshingly so.
This book was well written, excellently narrated and very engaging.
I liked all the characters... even the unlikeable ones. They were all well developed but not overly so. That Mac Gavin tho... lol
This is more like the gaming story we all experience ourselves... We learn to become awesome enough to overcome opposition and reap the reward for becoming awesome.

I can't wait for the second book in this series!!

Best LITRPG I've heard...

I was given this book for free and am reviewing it without bias.

It wasn’t a bad story. A woman narrating a male MC took some getting used to, but only because most books I’ve read match narrator gender to PoV/MC but I got used to it.

My main issues were timing and structure. The MC doesn’t get into the game for almost three hours, and then it feels like the in-game part doesn’t have enough substance by the time it ends.

The concepts are all cool, so good world building.

So many cringe-worthy mistakes made out of ignorance not just from the MC but his team, too. Maybe it’s realistic but again, with how little time we had to enjoy the game, it felt unsatisfying when the resolution came around. Also, the final engagement, knowing the danger, was hard to get into because the reward didn’t seem to match the risk, even though I normally would have enjoyed the way he did it.

Also I think the pain levels could have been more impactful. It was there but it didn’t seem to do anything so I never cared until I realized I should be caring.

I don’t regret the listen, but there are better options. I hope the author will work to improve his craft, because all my qualms are things that learning and practice can fix. I’d be happy to follow him if I knew each book would show improvement.
