About this listen

Dark Adventure Radio Theatre: The Lurking Fear brings to life H.P. Lovecraft's tale of a lingering supernatural horror in a 1930s-style radio drama. Dark Adventure Radio Theatre presents the tale with a huge cast of professional actors, exciting sound effects, and thrilling original music by Troy Sterling Nies. It’s like movies you can enjoy with your eyes closed.

A freak storm decimates the population of a remote village in the Catskill Mountains. As the local authorities investigate, they begin to suspect there's more at work than unseasonable weather. Their inquiries lead them to an abandoned mansion from the days when New York was a Dutch colonial territory. Is the old mansion haunted by the victim of a tragic murder? Are strange wild animals roaming the surrounding woods, preying on human victims? Or could there be more terrible forces at work, lurking unseen in the foreboding back woods?

Discovered a new Lovecraft story

Thanks to DART, I discovered a Lovecraft story I haven't previously seen or read. As usual they do a great job adapting this for their format.

HPLHS Radio Theater at its Best!

Another fantastic performance of the macabre in the style of old radio serials. Listen - if you dare!

Early Lovecraft

This is an early Lovecraft story improved by the dramatization of the HPLHS Dark Adventure Radio.

Hard to Understand

The narrators were extremely hard to understand when portraying some of the locals. The spoke to low and the accents that they tried to imitate made it difficult to even understand what they were saying. Other than that, I enjoyed the story.

a brilliant adaptation

One of my favorite Lovecraft stories. Altered in small ways that elevate the source material

A spin

A nice spin on the original story. I need fifteen words more, what a waste.

A must have. The voice actors, sound effects, and characters are very entertaining and fun to listen to. If you want your short story entertainment fix this is the creepy creature one for you.

Sound effects took over

One of the more predictable Lovecraft stories (there’s always that one guy who walks into danger😜).
It felt like the narrators tried to compensate by dialing the hillbilly accents up to unintelligible.
