Publisher's summary

Fall. Autumn. It doesn't matter what you call it, I hate it. I despise pumpkins, Halloween, and the overwhelming sense of dread as the cold and damp move in. But when my new chauffeur drives up in a hearse, Halloween carols blaring, I realize there will be no escape from the holiday.

Penny

Fall is the best time of the year! I love pumpkin spice everything, cozy scarves, and nostalgic movies. But most of all, I love Halloween. My quaint home town of Harrogate is the perfect place to celebrate the holiday. We're the original Halloween town.

I should be more excited, except that I'm going back to Harrogate after failing to make it as a journalist in Manhattan. Instead of living out my dreams, I'm living in a dilapidated Victorian house with creepy identical twins, a black cat named Salem, and a snobby ghost. I also have a new temp job with a sexy but grouchy billionaire who is determined to make me quit.

My mother wants me to write a juicy tell-all about Garrett and his huge family. Yep, I'm going to trick the cold-blooded billionaire. I know I need to stick with the plan and weasel enough information out of my boss to write a killer article for a big payday.

Pumpkin season 🎃

I liked the book overall. It had a cute story line! Just a lot of sex was included in the story. Wasn't quite expecting such details.

I liked it, but the earlier books are better

The earlier books in this series are better, but it was still a fun romcom… you definitely get more out of it if you’re familiar with the family background (of the Svensson’s and everything going on there!).

There’s a lot going on in this one with Penny’s family background as well - but it’s a Halloween themed story with planning a town Halloween party, a haunted house, and pumpkin spice everything.

I did enjoy returning to the Svensson family shenanigans and the women who fell for them, plus the new addition in little Davey. Penny’s younger twin “sisters” were also great side characters!

Retuning narrators Samantha Summers and Alexander Cendese are the perfect pair for this series. I look forward to continuing on with them!

Interesting

Love the insecurity of a good looking man. A man who appreciates what he has. Doesn’t take it for granted. Who is loving and supporting

this book needs to be shorter

I was right to worry about the 11 hr duration. This would have been 5 stars at 4 hours or 4 stars at 6 hours.

ugh 5 hours down and it feels like the story just stopped and parked

It's long but worth it!

This was one of the longest books I have ever listened to, but the story is totally worth it. If you love Halloween and Pumpkin Spice and Romance this is one for you! Penny is quirky and adorable, a kindred spirit in the love of all things baked and holiday related. Garrett is tough but endearing as you get to know him. Plus the brothers add a major layer of humor and understanding.

All around, this is a wonderful story and the narrators did a wonderful job. Alexander Cendese has an amazing voice and does wonderful impressions. Samantha Summers also has a lovely voice and does great. I could see in my mind what all the characters looked like and their demeanor based on the narration alone.

There are tons of dirty bits, but they do not detract from the story at all. They totally enhance it. Give it a try and you'll understand this is an excellent book!

Worst language use ever

Did not enjoy the filthy language in this audiobook. Because I didn't I canceled the other 3 I had purchased. The story is funny & charming but to much #$%^, @$%^, bad language for my taste.

Sometimes what you need isn't what you think it is

I kind of loved this story. I did a lot of laughing and saying oh no. It was entertaining and enjoyable although there were many times that I was yelling at Penny (mostly) and Garrett to just communicate with each other. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. There were a lot of supporting characters that were absolutely wonderful. Lilith and Morticia were great friends to Penny by being supportive but also by giving her a kick when she needed it. Garrett was amazing. He was so much more patient than I could ever imagine being. Garrett was so sweet and tender-hearted on the inside but all grumpy and growly on the outside. Penny was sweet but she also acted or reacted impulsively. Some of the things that she did to Garrett made me want to smack her. I loved how the story ended though. I recommend reading this book.

Listening to this book is a treat. The narrators both did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. It was like being part of the story. I also recommend listening to this book.

Very poor audio recording

The male narrator sounds like he recorded his portion on a phone. He speaks considerably faster than the female narrator. Where as the Penny chapters are fine on 1.45x (shortening the book to 8 hours), I’d have to slow Garrett chapters down, to maybe 1.2x? This really needs a sound engineer. Glad it was free (for Audible subscribers), I’d be angry if I had actually bought the recording.

Like a spicier Hallmark holiday movie

I really enjoyed the overall story and thought it was definitely a very cute and quirky idea. I liked the small town feeling of it and I definitely felt like it was a sweet holiday treat with a lot more spicy scenes than you might see on TV. I definitely recommend this for a feel-good fun listen.

I enjoyed the dual narration but a little thrown off by the male narrator doing the female protagonist voice.

Way too long, annoying characters

Story should have been chopped by at least half if not more. Garrett’s narrator did not match the character. The book overall was just too much: Penny ate too much, it was off putting. There was too much sex (I found myself skipping through the scenes because they lasted too long and were over the top). Penny was so immature when dealing with her mom. Garrett & Penny were both too insecure at times. And I know it’s a falll book but good lord, everything pumpkin and pumpkin spice all the time got old real fast. Have no interest in reading another from this series/author.
