Publisher's summary

Guys six feet and over have it made in the dating game. But girls? Not so much.

Most guys stay far the hell away from tall girls. The ones who don’t? You’re getting the real bottom of the barrel dates:

  • The guy with the height fetish who kept trying to touch my feet.
  • The dude with mommy issues who burst into tears and cried on my shoulder.
  • The alphahole billionaire who needs a whole separate town car for his ego.

At first glance (an upward glance because he was tall), Greg Svensson seemed perfect. Six-feet-five of solid muscle with washboard abs and a tower with his name on it, Greg was a guy my parents would actually begrudgingly admire. I had our future all planned out. Until he opened his mouth. It was hate at first sight.

The only thing we have in common is that we’re both tall. He wears bespoke suits; I wear flats with holes in them. He runs a big shot investment firm; I’m trying to start my own company with only bubble gum and circus peanuts. He likes to show up at my horrible dates and ruin them; I…pretended I hated when he did that but secretly was thrilled even though it was a little young adult fiction.

Don’t judge! Six-foot tall beggars can’t be choosers. Besides, just because I hate him doesn’t mean I won’t date him!

This is a prequel to the new Manhattan Svensson brother series. This enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy complete with all the sexy hotness on a six-foot-five stick, a heroine who is your new best friend, and all the laugh-out-loud moments that will make you choke on your wine!

Romantic comedy, large family, billionaire, work r

Romantic comedy, large family, billionaire, work rivals and perfect spice!

This is a prequel to a series, and therefore you should not expect a HEA. And it is stated on the cover that it is book 0 in the series. You will be able to read the series without this book, but I think that this gives you so much more connection when you do read the story.

This series is a spinoff of another series, but no need to have read that one either. Though if you have, then you have met and heard of these characters before. But one again, if you pick up this book or the series you will not feel as if you have missed anything. I picked up one of this author's books just cause, and in the last 2 weeks I have read 10 books and have no plan on stopping til I have read them all. Just amazing.

*I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. These narrators were top-notch.

Overall a fun read

I have enjoyed this series and the author. The books are funny and lighthearted as well as strong female characters. I was disappointed that the male narrator chose to use an elderly man voice as Greg. (I think he was trying for distinguished?). I had to work to not visualize an old man every time he spoke, which was not fitting at all to the plot. Other than that, fun and lighthearted.

I need more!!

I kind of loved this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable while both cracking me up and/or frustrating me. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. Belle and Greg have things in common but are mostly different. Those differences draw them together but also cause issues that become drama and angst. Both of them enjoyed the height of the other as it made them feel like they fit together. Belle had wonderful friends in Emma and Dana. They were supportive but also pushed her to do things that she wasn't sure about. Greg had quite a variety of brothers and they were all over the place from supportive to not so much. Belle and Greg had a great start to a real relationship but Greg definitely undervalued Belle's abilities. Belle had her own insecurities. Between the two of them, their "baggage" wasn't insurmountable but it was enough to put a MAJOR damper on things. I liked how the story ended, but I definitely need more! I recommend reading this book that is the start of Belle and Greg's journey.

I was also able to listen to the audiobook and it was very enjoyable. The narrators did a great job of bringing the story to life. I recommend listening to the audiobook as well.

So so

The story was ok but the male performer sounded like a grandfather which made it awkward to listen to.

The Hate Date

After reading the first Svensson Brothers series, I was looking forward to diving into the Manhattan Brothers books!

I liked getting a glimpse at new characters and the start of Greg and Belle's story. They don't get their HEA, but I am sure we will get the rest of their romance.

Alina writes fun, and hilarious stories and this is no exception. I really enjoy picking up her books when I need a story that will literally make me laugh out loud. I can't wait for more from this series!

So much fun

These families are a riot with all the interactions and problems they seem to create. They pull you in and make you laugh and cry but can’t wait to hear more.

Rushed and lacking depth

The narration of the female was fine but the guy was too angry for the character. He could have sounded frustrated or annoyed but not pure anger. Maybe the story wouldn’t have come off as childish if he didn’t sound pissed all of the time. There were some details about the characters but it still felt like it lacked depth. The story is rushed. I don’t need a slow built but this was way too fast. I just couldn’t with this book. I tried so hard to give it at chance. I got about 2/3 of the way through and finally gave up.

This is NOT a complete book!!

This ends abruptly with a stupid cliffhanger!! Argh I am so mad that I didn’t catch that in the reviews before buying. Also, the audiobook male narrator is NOT GOOD. He legit sounds like the grinch. Sooo angry I spent money on this.
