Publisher's summary

Keith A Pearson's time-travel adventure, In Lieu of You, centres on a relationship question many have pondered: Where would I be today if I hadn't met that one person?

Hypothetically, we might want to know the answer. In reality, though?

Gary and Clare Kirk are set to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary...except they’re not. Childless, and with so little in common, the couple finally accept there’s no good reason to remain married.

However, Gary’s idea of an amicable divorce settlement differs significantly from Clare’s, and tensions between the couple soon mount. Money, as is often the case, is at the root of their disagreement.

As Gary explores every avenue to evade his wife’s financial demands, he inadvertently finds himself sitting opposite a relationship resolution advisor by the name of Edith Stimp. The mysterious Mrs Stimp then suggests a solution as unorthodox as it is unbelievable—a brief journey back in time to the day Gary first met Clare.

If he accepts the unlikely trip back to 1996, all Gary has to do is prevent his teenage self from meeting his future wife. If they never meet, they never marry, and there won’t be a financially-crippling divorce—what could be simpler?

For better or for worse, Gary Kirk is about to find out.

Love it!

A fascinating story that moved easily along and kept my interest the entire time. I loved all the characters in both “time periods”. The narration was excellent! I recommend this book to anyone that might be interested in time travel or searching for a love story.

I love time travel stories

I’ll be honest, I disliked Gary and Claire so much. The resolution was fun but I do think we could have seen growth from each. What she did at the banquet could offered her a chance to at least be a little reticent and remorseful. Her actions showed her to be as single minded and goal oriented as Gary but with no awareness. But still a fun read

Fun story that doesn't make your brain hurt or your heart ache

This is the second time travel book that I have read from this author, and I really enjoyed it! The concept of revisiting and reliving your own past in the hopes of bettering your future is a fun thought experience. I enjoy reading time travel books that are set in modern times like this one. The book is more about personal growth than the science of time travel or experiencing historical events. The characters and conflicts are relatable, and the story is engaging. I enjoyed the narrator, and the book was a fun, easy read- life lessons but nothing too heavy for the mind and heart. Sometimes you just want a good story that does not make your brain hurt or your heart ache and this author is great for that!

Very Inspirational

What I enjoyed most about this book is it really does double as a self help book to help you take a step back and really be just so thankful for what you have. Without including spoilers the best way to explain why I’m giving it an overall 4 is that the plot moves 180 degrees away from what anyone with any sort of common sense would have done. With this being said, the bulk of the book is very inspirational and it is a very easy and enjoyable read.

Perfect ending

I was worried at times that the main character was too much of a jerk, but he is redeemed in the 11th hour.

Captivating from the start to very end

Clever time travel story and really enjoyable to listen to on Audible. Funny at times but a great story as well. Once you start hard not to keep listening to.

So far I have loved every Keith A Pearson book!

This one included. I hate to give spoilers so I will do everything I can to not do that here. Its fairly well into the book before we get to the time travel and its relatively short, the fallout from that travel is a good portion of the book and really makes you think about how people can impact our lives. If you have read any of his other books and enjoyed them then you should jump on this as well. If anything its better than his previous work just through improving on his craft.
