About this listen

Vengeance awaits in the follow up to the epic, award-winning, New York Times bestselling Inkheart trilogy by internationally acclaimed author Cornelia Funke.

Five years after the events of Inkdeath, Meggie, Mo, and the people of Ombra lead peaceful lives, their fires warmed by the flames of Dustfinger―the Fire-Dancer. But when Dustfinger spots Orpheus’s glass man within the gates of Ombra, a familiar restlessness begins to haunt him once more. And for good reason…

The past five years have been a different story for Orpheus, who has spent his days living a meager and deprived existence, fueled only by his thirst for revenge against Dustfinger and all those who betrayed him. Now, Orpheus has found an unexpected way to seek vengeance against his greatest adversary. He has corrupted an artist to create bewitched portraits that will see the heroes fade to gray.

When Dustfinger’s deepest fears come true, he’ll have to figure out whether the words still obey Orpheus. Or if he should be afraid of the pictures this time…

Like Returning Home

I was so delighted to discover a 4th book to this beloved series and it did not disappoint. Funke is a wordsmith that knows how to create both beauty and darkness on the page. This book was masterful, just like the previous three.

Inkworld!

I loved it! It is a very good book about sadness, and loss, but also the hope that shines through!

Liked it but repetitive statements

I do have one issue and it was the use of repetitive statements they are very noticeable. Otherwise it was a great end? To the series seeing how I listened to it years after reading the first three

Bittersweet

This is a fantastic ending to the Inkheart series which I started reading many years ago. I have been waiting for this finale for some years as well!

It has a different flavor than the original trilogy - it tends more towards the effort of preservation rather than the adventurous world-building begun in Inkheart. But the author has remained more than faithful to her characters and provides good opportunities for them all to rise out of their remaining flaws if they choose to.

Everyone has the chance to be a hero. Even the villains. And for that, I thank Cornelia Funke.

Even better than the previous ones

The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that it was over too soon. I could stay in the Inkworld forever.

the reader was not the right choice for the book. it lacked emotion and it was hard to distinguish characters.

The story line was just so-so compared to the other three. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it better with a different reader. Or perhaps it's because I never liked Orpheus and to have a book all about him was a turn off. I was hoping to hear about another adventure with Mortimer and the rest.
