About this listen

Lauren:

Running into an ex you haven't seen in nearly a decade is never a good time. Running into your ex while he's arresting you is humiliating. The handcuffs close around my fists at the same time he promises to hate me until he takes his last breath. I can't blame him. He pleaded for me not to walk away. He doesn't know leaving him broke my heart as much as it did his. It wasn't for me. Rather, it was for someone else.

Gage:

I skipped town after Hurricane Lauren obliterated my heart. Coming home was a hard choice to make. Arresting her isn't. She has no idea of the demons I carry with me now. No idea that I'm a new man. Two women ruined me. One I gave my heart to. The other punished me for it.

Contains mature themes.

Second Chances

Second Chance Romances are my jam!! True love always wins out in the end. Lauren and Gage’s story is no exception. Their story is a sad one, it broke my heart. Have some tissues ready, you’re going to need them.

Lauren is a nurse at the hospital. She has a huge heart when it comes to helping other people. That doesn’t extend to dating, not that she has time for it anyways. She gave her heart away years ago and never got it back.

Gage is a Police Officer and he has just transferred back to the little town of Blue Beech. He hasn’t been back since Lauren broke his heart. He is determined to hate her, while trying to outrun the life he had been living.

The chemistry between these two is electrifying. Their story is one of love, heartbreak, loss, hate and love again. My heart broke for Gage, I’m still not sure it’s healed...although Lauren sure does help with that 😉

I could listen to Samantha Cook and Aaron Shedlock alllll day long!!!!!

Why can’t they just talk?!

This story was soo frustrated. These people were immature and the H was truly a jerk. The h was no better. There’s no romance just pure drama and no connection between the Main characters. The h was too busy being with other women and talk about other woman. Like I said, no romance.

A second chance at love

I liked how there were multi facets to these 2 people for them to be honest and come together again for keeps.

Complicated Relationship

Enjoyable characters and their families.
When Lauren was 18 she had to make a hard selfless decision which broke her heart. Gage was 18 when Lauren broke their relationship because of a promise she made. She never gave him a reason. Now that he’s back home to live he wants the reason she left him and she refuses to break her promise. They had a bumpy relationship, he still loved her but wanted revenge, she still loved him and wanted him. The story involves love, marriage, divorce, push & pull, tears, violence and the loss of a child. Very emotional. My only annoyance was how can you love someone so much yet say “I Do” to someone else and stay married for 5 years and was thinking about having a family with her, to me that is unacceptable a hard “no” and a second chance would be out of the question. When the FMC accepts that it makes her weak in my opinion.

Sad but great story. Finding love and not giving up on your loved one. I cannot put it down or stop listening to it.

Whoa

I am incomplete all over this story. It was very heartfelt, painful, inspiring, and any other emotion you could add to it. Mental illness is no joke. You can feel the pain and suffering of Gage in the story. Lauren’s need to comfort him and be with him could be felt as well. I was not expecting the storyline to take the twist that it had. The secret was held for so long, and I was shocked when it was revealed. Nobody should have to go to that kind of pain. Nobody should have to go through that kind of loss. It made me be want to cry so many times. looking forward to the next story.

Language

Great story line but again there were too many GD’s throughout book. Otherwise I would recommend.

The emotional feelings you can feel through the reader. Great job!! Gage and Lauren exes who learn how to work through problems to come back together. This story will make you cry. Grab tissues. The crap each go through to come back together is heartbreaking. Highly recommended for mature audiences

SOO Much Better Than Book 2 . . .

This story was SOO much better than Book 2!! I ❤️ Second-Chance romances, mostly because the characters had some kind real connection before!! I REALLY liked Lauren (the female lead) (she thankfully wasn’t so annoying as Willow was in the last book) & really was invested in wanting to find out why she really broke up with Gage (the male lead) (I kept wanting to call him Gabe, not GaGe, btw; lol 😆) in the 1st place. Anyway, really liked Gage too … the stuff he went through in Chicago . . . Man . . . 😢 But it made him likable & you really felt for him, too. The only thing I wasn’t too sure about was Kyle (Gage’s partner/best friend) (Gage’s a policeman, btw) in the beginning. He seemed like a total JERK (I’m using the word “jerk” to avoid calling him something worse & cussing in this review, but you get the idea 😅), like even worse than Gage was at the beginning. It’s like “Okay, I get that she broke up with your best friend for seemingly no reason & that your a very loyal friend & everything, but CALM DOWN, man!! You don’t have to be down-right RUDE to her face! She didn’t break up with YOU!!” As T.S. (I’m a major Swiftie) sings, 🎶 You need to calm down / You’re being too loud 🎶 😅 But, anyway, he thankfully got better towards the end & less of a jerk! Hopefully, he’s not as rude in his OWN story, Book 4!! 😊 The other thing that really DID annoy me, though (and the real reason why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5), was Willow. [Sigh] Yes, Willow was sadly just as annoying in this book as she was in her own story . . . First, at the beginning, she was trying to convince Lauren to have a one-night-stand & I’m like, “Woman, you got PREGNANT with YOUR ONS & now you’re trying to convince someone ELSE to have one, too?!?!” I mean, yes, it was the best thing that ever happened to you, but C’MON!! What if it wasn’t?? You’re trying to get someone else to try the same thing & hopes it works FOR THEM, as well?!?! And secondly, when Lauren was CLEARLY not interested, she KEPT ON pushing!! THAT’S what really made me mad!! 😡 Like, “The woman’s clearly not into that! Move on now, please! QUIT being so pushy!!” I HATED that part!! 😡 But other than those 2 things, this was a REALLY good love story!! 👍🏻🥰
