About this listen

Gillian Flynn says, "Karin Slaughter is simply one of the best thriller writers working today."

Saturday night dates at the skating rink have been a tradition in the small southern town of Heartsdale for as long as anyone can remember, but when a teenage quarrel explodes into a deadly shoot-out, Sara Linton - the town's pediatrician and medical examiner - finds herself entangled in a terrible tragedy.

What seemed at first to be a horrific but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications. The autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse, of ritualistic self -mutilation, but when Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, they are frustrated at every turn.

The children surrounding the victim close ranks. The families turn their backs. Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime, one far more shocking than anyone could have imagined. Meanwhile, detective Lena Adams, still recovering from her sister's death and her own brutal attack, finds herself drawn to a young man who might hold the answers. But unless Lena, Sara, and Jeffrey can uncover the deadly secrets the children hide, it's going to happen again...

Love this series

Kathleen Early is an amazing narrator! This is the 3rd book I’ve listened to with her narrating and definitely won’t be the last!

Disturbing topic but worth it for the strong female characters

Kisscut covers a very disturbing topic. What I love about Karin slaughters books are, despite disturbing topics, the strong female characters who are trying to help really intrigue me. She certainly takes you to a different world that most people have no experience with. I would warn that those sensitive to child sexual abuse should perhaps use caution with this book I am able to read her books and focus more on the characters that are trying so hard to do good in a world that is so bad. If you were not able to do this this might not be the book for you.

Good summer read. Read them in order

I enjoyed the story and its development-felt engaged with most of the characters, although some of them were aggravating

Good but not great

I have heard good things about the series so I’m going to go through them all. This one was good, but not great. It’s a rough one to get through; a lot of tough subjects. I had a hard time keeping all of the facts straight but that could just be me. I would still give it a listen to keep building characters. Oddly enough this made me dislike characters I originally liked. Sarah, Jeffrey and Leena felt overly harsh in this one.

Absolutely loves this series

I listened to this whole series in less than a week. It was excellent and I suggest going in blind.

However, I am here to talk about Kathleen Early. She has an amazing voice- she really does good with voice acting and make characters. The only problem I have is that she talks like stewie from family guy.

Two words: Whill Who-Eaton

Very Powerful

Wow, what a powerful story. An excellent job by the author in laying out a suspenseful plot with very powerful characters. It made me cringe knowing that Human Trafficking knows no boundaries and it’s so sad that there are thousands of kids being subject to abuse by these sick people. I was already a fan of Karen Slaughter, this book out her in my top 5 writers.

I enjoyed the book, but if you are triggered by SA….I don’t recommend it.

I liked it.

Started a bit slow. But once it got going it was pretty good. This story is not for everyone though.
