Poorly done.

The overall information content was barely adequate, and uneven. The writing was subpar, and the performance was particularly weak. Seems like the narrator would learn how to pronounce all the words before making a recording. There were many mispronunciations. Not recommended.

Good information

It’s written with a scientific approach, not so much narrative. But it’s good info if you want to learn about Kratom!

Very Helpful

Easy to follow. Kratom is no longer such a mystery herb to me and I now have a basis for my dosage.

Great book - unbelievably poor narrator

The book itself is a good overview of effects and other variables concerning kratom. The narrator obviously has issues pronouncing scientific terms. I lost count how many simple scientific terms and sometimes even simple words he mispronounces: serotonin becomes "seratin". Mytrogynine (my-trah-gih-neen) becomes "mite-row-jine-in". I could go on and on.

Good book though.

Narrator messes up constantly - even said "What!?"

Narrator Austin Stoler does not know how to pronounce many words, so he just either guesses, swallow the word, drops some syllables, or, no joke, says it different every time the word comes up. There is no editing, seems like it was done in a single take - at one point early in the book he even stops after messing up a pronounciation and says "What!?" before steamrolling right through the rest of the sentence like nothing happened. Even simple words like "quantity" are misread as "quality".

Worse, the narrator has no pre-knowledge of the book which shows in his intonation. Every sentence is announced like a tutorial from a chalkboard list, with the same cadence and no bearing on the actual meaning of what's being said. Sorry, but Austin should not be an Audible Narrator, and this recording needs to be redone.

if you can get past that, the book is good though, great comprehensive list of kratom facts (most of which, though, you don't "need" to know in the slightest).

I don't know where to begin...

Narrator has no clue how to pronounce A LOT of words. Author cannot start with "The first thing you need to know is it's not a drug, " and then refer to it as a drug countless times. SUPER repetitive. Incredibly anecdotal with no actual peer-reviewed study citations. So, so many of these claims are not backed up by legitimate science, which actually IS out there.

It disturbs me when someone acts like an authority on something, yet has claims like "The best way to take it is with a chocolate almond milk." Dude - everyone's an individual.

While the narrator seems enthusiastic, he needs to learn how to pronounce words. The author needs to do a lot more research. It's a huge myth that Reds are sedative, Greens are moderate and Whites are like stimulants. In fact, there are some super mellow White strains, and plenty of Green and Red uppity strains. Also, why were Yellow/Gold strains left out?

Finally, when referring to strains, it's not "kratoms". That's like saying "there are many marijuanas" when referring to marijuana strains. Also, the other pluralities made my head spin: "Tolerances," "legalities, " and too many more to remember. I can't remember it offhand, but the subheading which was something like "effective efficacies" = facepalm.

Pick one tense, author. Changing from first-, to second-, to third-person is both annoying and terrible for an educational book. Also, learn words like "botany, " "serotonin," "sedative, " "Borneo," "anxiolytic," "reputable," plus too many more, and for Pete's sake, narrator - decide whether you want to pronounce the plant itself as "KRAYtom" or "KRAHtom.' Pick only one and stick with it. Give it the ol' college try.

Another tip that was sorely overlooked in this "book" - after ingesting Kratom, chew on a piece of lemon wedge, or squeeze it into your water/powder blend to nicely amplify the effects.

I thought I'd learn something I didn't know, as I'm always interested in learning more about this medicinal gem that I've been using since 2008, but I'm actually dumber for having listened to this.

The 102nd thing I need to know is that this "book" made me realize that I could write, and narrate, an entire book about Kratom myself, including citations to actual replicated, decent sample-sized, peer-reviewed studies, published in reputable scientific journals. I honestly could write the entire book within several hours, narrate it myself, and truly pass along a comprehensive, non-repetitive, educational book that would be beneficial to readers/listeners. On a nice blend of Green and White Maeng Da with a gram or two of Red Sunda or Bentuangie, and I'd crank that baby out in a few hours. Oh, that reminds me - when referring to pregnant women, it's not "women undergoing pregnancy." That makes it sound like a medical procedure. I did actually laugh out loud at that.

This is the fourth book on Kratom to which I've listened, and each one is worse than the prior. As a last note, this author should NOT be giving out dosage information, as everyone is an individual.

If you're new to the world of Kratom, save your money and listen to one of many, many podcasts about Kratom for free.
