Critic reviews

"An acclaimed SFF novelist's first short-story collection... Bloodily clever and darkly comic... The many different approaches Leckie takes to her subject are amazing."—Kirkus

"There are few who write science fiction like Ann Leckie can. There are few who ever could."—John Scalzi

Adjoa Andoh and Ann Leckie are Perfection

As a fan of the Leckie/Andoh audio combo, this collection doesn’t disappoint. Definitely a treat for a fan of Leckie, though I don’t know if it would be *as* good for someone who’s not familiar with her other work; this book enriches the worlds she’s created already while also giving us some charming one-offs. Hope there’s something in the works for 2025!

great works

I even loved the fantasy stories, which is unusual for my sci-fi loving self.
Great ideas and literally still

Terrible audio quality

I’ve no problem with the stories or performance, but the low audio quality almost ruins it for me. Audiobooks should not sound like AM radio in 2024.

This could be the worst AB I have ever tried to suffer through.

Kept listening hoping there would be a diamond in the rough. Some great story to cherish. Most were pointless ramblings that were not worth printing. Usually I can at least give the performance praise, but this was awful. Her reading was so dramatically slow that even with increasing the speed it was too slow. Her character voices sounded like bad cartoon voices on Sesame Street or Barney. I love short stories, but this... hurts my heart.
