About this listen

“The author and multiple Grammy-nominated narrator whips through this upside-down, utterly debased, genuinely hilarious tale in his iconic, approachable cadence.”–The New York Times

This program is read by author and two-time Grammy-nominated agent provocateur, John Waters. The doyen of deviance and depravity narrates his hilarious novel with masterly skill.

A hilariously filthy tale of sex, crime, and family dysfunction from the brilliantly twisted mind of John Waters, the legendary filmmaker and bestselling author of Mr. Know-It-All.

Marsha Sprinkle: Suitcase thief. Scammer. Master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She’s smart, she’s desperate, she’s disturbed, and she’s on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her "Liarmouth"—until one insane man makes her tell the truth.

John Waters's first novel, Liarmouth, is a perfectly perverted “feel-bad romance,” and the listener will thrill to hop aboard this delirious road trip of riotous revenge.

I like John Waters but ...

I didn't get it. The narration was great, I liked the storyline involving Marsha, the filth was fantastic. The problem was the incoherent sub plots. I enjoy some absurdity but it has to come from somewhere and end somewhere.

Like father, like…

Weird and twisted just like the king himself. Outlandish, insane, uniquely sexy and entrancing. I loved every strange nonsensical thing about Liar-mouth. I consider myself a shaker from now on.

John Waters narration wins but the story is just ok

This story started off very strong and I liked the first part very much. When we are introduced to a woman's bouncing crew and a man's talking penis. I didn't like it as much. still going to see the movie when it's done

All Hail the Baron of Bad Taste

Hilariously vulgar with eargasms! John Waters is a national treasure. I laughed and I also earned something, who knew that there was such a thing as pet plastic surgery?

I can’t wait for the movie

To live for just one moment in the spin cycle that is the mind of John Waters would be amazing—- wait!! That is what this is. One delightful tilt-a-whirl ride through the mind of Waters in a bouncy shaky clown car. I only have one question— Mr Waters will you have dinner with me?

For the fanatics

Well, I am a fanatic, but the story was a bit too chaotic for me. So many names, so many things happening, so many tiny remarks to follow. But I love listening to John Waters' voice and him talking about the things he love, so it was still enjoyable!

Liarmouth

Vintage John Waters. Bad taste personified. I never did get the dog/cat creature. Great narration by the author.
