Publisher's summary

The epic conclusion to New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatore’s electrifying trilogy, The Way of the Drow, finds Drizzt Do’Urden coming to understand his role as a friend, a father, and a man caught between the darkness and the light.

The drow city of Menzoberranzan has fallen into discontent, sowed by the growing legend of the one who escaped: Drizzt Do’Urden. Now many of the drow—including the city’s most powerful house, led by the Matron Mother—are questioning the influence of the Spider Queen and the very history of the city’s founding.

What secrets lie ahead? The drow are determined to find out, and they’ll stop at nothing to dismantle the very structure they’ve called home.

As social tensions rise and the demands for answers boom, a fight erupts between the adherents of Lolth’s chaotic evil and those drow who demand more, demand better. In the Underdark there are only absolutes and no compromise will be found. With winner taking all, Drizzt Do’Urden cannot and will not remain on the sidelines anymore. This will be an uprising Menzoberranzan will never forget, and the rest of the Forgotten Realms won’t be able to look away.

Phoned in? No. Different, very.

SPOILERS. I really enjoyed this book. not the favorite of the dozens out there. it didn't embellish as much as I would like, but this is a book resting on stacks and stacks of material. It read more like a grizzled and tired D&D group after playing the same characters for decades, but I don't feel like that's a bad thing.

I'll be honest, I was feeling disappointed at first, by the pacing and the narration. it was all different. Not bad, just different. People have said that the book read as "tired." I agree, but I am going to take that as on purpose. I think this book really conveys how priorities change. The wants change even if the needs do not.. if you are looking for another GRAND ADVENTURE, this isn't it. That was the last book. How many times can you one-up after fighting a god?? Let alone ascension? At what time does a DM have to shift gears, and the group retires the characters?

I felt like this book was conveying the same sense but in real time with a different writing style. The sense that these powerful heroes are tired and want to have different responsibilities. Some have already retired, while some are getting pulled back to get in the room or battle and then do what needs to be done. And maybe realizing it won't last, but doing it anyway, hoping.

It's not the Drizzt books I've loved over the years, but I think it's real. And it still has heart, just roughed up with age.

I laughed out loud and shed some tears.

Salvatore has created epicness once again. I can't wait for all the heavy hitters to go on there next epic QueST! Where will it be next time? The multi-verse awaits! These characters are transitioning into Demi-God mode soon I bet

R. A. Does it Again

This is a great finish to this trilogy and another amazing story in the saga Drizzt. R. A. Salvatore has done it again and Victor has done a great job of capturing these characters.

Great end!!!

I’m glad I didn’t let the reviews I read deter me from this finale. People tend to ask for more than can be put into a book, shame on them!
The writing is on par with every book written so far, the characters and over arching development were on point.
The story as a whole, over the course of three books, reached a climax that was fitting. I see more books at the end of this, or if chosen this is a great way to end it.

There's More Canon D&D Material

I was pleasantly surprised to find more D&D Material in this book: Updated spells, Magic items, Abilities and the mechanical details of such. Nevermind that the story was incredibly engaging and another excellent performance by Victor Bevine. It's everything I come to expect from a Drizzt novel.

Yup

Another epic story. The tales of the Companions of the Hall and the surrounding cast never disappoints. Hope it continues.
