About this listen

The world of fitness apparel isn't ready for Beverly Lewis. She hates the gym, is nice to everybody, and shops at Ross Dress for Less. When she's not teaching preschool, she's wearing yoga pants...to nap in. So when she inherits her estranged grandfather's fitnesswear company in San Francisco, nobody expects her to keep it. Fite Fitness needs a heartless suit to save it from bankruptcy, not a thirty-year-old woman who cries when her students leave for kindergarten.

Someone like Liam Johnson. A former Olympic swimmer, Liam is Fite's executive vice president. Unlike Bev, he's devoted his life to Fite's success. Managing one little preschool teacher - and his attraction to her - shouldn't be an issue. Right?

But Bev's tired of being underpaid and underrated, and refuses to step aside as an obedient figurehead. To everyone's shock and horror, she moves up to San Francisco, sets up an office, and dives into the business. Nothing - not mockery, not exercise, not sabotage, not a disastrously hot night with her aggravating VP - is going to scare her away.

As Liam realizes she's tougher than she looks, he discovers that losing Fite might not be nearly as bad as losing her...

The story was cute and I liked the main characters yet there was a lot of explicit sex, and yes it was relevant in some places for the story, yet the word choices were too harsh for my taste. An intimate scene can be presented with a less offensive language. The reader was great!

Good story yet be warned

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to a friend if they wanted an contemporary romance to listen to. Howerver, if they wanted a romanctic comedy, then no. The book didn't have much humor in it and much of it wasn't very light, as one would expect with a comedy. It actually had some dark or mean spots through out the story. Not much humor in book at all. Title is very misleading.

Which character – as performed by Tanya Eby – was your favorite?

I found the mother and the sister of the main character quite annoying, but that's just how the characters were written. Tanya Eby did a great job with the different character voices.

This is not a romantic COMEDY!

It was an okay story but I felt like I was reading the abbreviated version, or the version they would use for a movie. As a book, I think it could have developed the characters more and the character development that was there was a little confusing. At times I liked Liam, then at times he was almost contradictory - "scratch and itch" but then gets mad when she said "thanks for the F***" - didn't always flow and this annoyed me. Then you have Ellen and she was exactly the same - I never liked any of the characters except the main one, she was at least consistent in her personality!

A bit lacking but still cute

I listened to this for the first time when it was released and found it adorable and fun. Just relistened as I needed a mental palate cleanse with something light and fun. Wow, 10 years makes a huge difference. This is so inappropriate and awful. Hateful mother, sisters, aunts and co-workers. With the exception of the main character every single person in this book (audiobook) was despicable, did despicable things and were in general heinous excuses of human beings. Truly truly despicable.

The second time was not better

Just the right blend of conflict and happy endings for a good romantic story. Narrator did a excellent job giving each character a different voice.

Very entertaining

Loved the narrator. Loved the protagonist! She's smart, caring, funny at times. Most of all, she doesn't make excuses for how her body is. She doesn't let anyone shame her for having a well-rounded figure in the sports fashion business. I enjoyed all the secondary characters except her mom & aunts. It was fun to see how the man, 2nd in command at the company, reacted & responded to Bev.

Very Good Rom-Com

Engaging, realistic characters and story. Fun and insightful development of the role of the woman as boss and how employees, family, friends and lover deal with that reality.

Fun

I hated the main male character, i kept yelling at the heroine to walk away! and got frustrated with some of the plot holes.

frustrating read

First loved the narration. She really keeps the story alive and not dull.
I am always apprehensive when I know the heroine is a plus size gal. Usually authors like to make them feel bad about them selves. Or the weight is all they talk about.
Sooooo NOT the case in this book. I loved how she was just a normal granted pushed around gal. But it had NOTHING to do with the size of her weight. THANK YOU Gretchen for that.
Oh Liam I wanted to hump his leg through half this book. He was just a swoon worthy kind a guy. You do want to smack up side his head a few times but what you gotta do.
There was a lot of twists and turns I wasn't expected. I loved her sisters punk lol or right hook ahaha.
I really liked watching Bev come into her own in this book, and Liam taking a step back and seeing Bev for who she really is.
Over all a fun light heart'ed read one I look forward to re-listening to.

4 Solid Stars!
