About this listen

Freya runs from her past, but trouble seems to follow her everywhere she goes.

Years after discovering her parents' marriage was invalid, and she illegitimate, Freya continued to struggle with the scandal hanging over her head. When her father reappears with his real wife and daughter, Freya flees London entirely.

With an inherited country house, Freya at least has somewhere to run. She looks forward to meeting her faithful steward, who writes the most diverting letters. However, Mr. Daniel Bryce is not the old gentleman she expected, but young, handsome, and eligible.

Freya struggles with her growing feelings for her steward as they work together to renovate the only home she has left. When a stranger shows up and threatens to reveal Freya's past, will she find the strength to remove herself from the scandal's shadow?

Sweet and clean!

Cute clean love story. You will need to up the speed on the audio version. The reader has a pleasant voice, but reads way too slow.

Storyline Lacking

The character and plot development were lacking. The romance did not smoothly develop and seemed abrupt

Enjoyed it

Very cute and enjoyed the characters and the twists. Also, enjoyed the continuation of characters from previous books.

Narration poorly done

Worst English accent ever is very distracting. Getting a new narrator would probably make the story much better.

Narrator was torture

The story was sweet and kept me engaged but each time the narrator said chapter whatever I wanted to cringe. What a shame.

Storyline good. Narrator is not.

Out of the 700 audible books I’ve listened to, this narrator had me cringing every time the next chapter was announced.

Enjoyable Story & narration

I enjoyed the story about overcoming and forgiving the hard things handed to us through others choices. A good example that, often, communicating with kindness and honesty through the unknown can be worth what may be uncomfortable… allowing for the possibility of a more peaceful outcome.

I also enjoyed the narrator, Mary Sarah. I put the speed at 1.2 to accommodate for the slowness. Her beautiful, soft voice was calming and soothing to me, allowing me to feel the love that radiated between Daniel and Fraya… I felt their love physically (a tingling sensation) as well as emotionally. I simply turned the volume up when I couldn’t hear well enough. Well done.

(It did end before I wanted it to, however, the hard things things that held them back from each other had settled and I could imagine that, together, they found joy in their future. I could imagine that the love they shared would carry them through life as they would find joy in both happy and challenging times. That what ever life brought to them, as they chose love, they would, together, be made even stronger).

This story confirms, to me, the knowledge that we can all be in charge of our happy endings as we choose to forgive, love, and be loved… all with consistent and unwavering Grace from on high.

A Favorite Narrator and a Very Sweet Romance

I am always happy when I see Mary Sarah as narrator. This is a sweet, well-written love story. Mary Sarah does her usual magic with a mellifluous reading for those who love the melody of words expressed in attractive voices. She draws you in. I will look for more books by Kasey Stockton.

Enchanting Tale

The narrator has really grown on me. Her sultry voice is very soothing and feminine. The story is very emotionally satisfying! I found myself crushing on Freya. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Blaming the victim

It's odd how things haven't changed in all these years. Illegitimate offspring were cruelly treated for something they had no control over, and many are badly treated in these enlightened times. Shame on the high sticklers!
