About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Julianne MacLean comes a passionate and emotional tale of a most unexpected love…

Married by Midnight: A Pembroke Palace Novella

For seven years, Lord Garrett Sinclair - the ruggedly handsome illegitimate son of the Duke of Pembroke - has been traveling abroad with no intention of ever returning home to Pembroke Palace… until his father commands that he must marry by Christmas in order to thwart a family curse or lose his inheritance forever. Haunted by a tragic accident that has hardened his soul, Garrett entrusts his brothers to seek out a bride who will agree to a marriage in name only. Her reward? A sizable share of his inheritance - payable immediately after the wedding night.

Lady Anne Douglas has been ruined by scandal and disowned by her father. Facing a life of poverty and spinsterhood, she leaps at the generous terms of the marriage contract to ensure her independence. But the charade of a two-week engagement proves more of a challenge than either anticipated when they cannot resist the intoxicating lure of the marriage bed. Anne knows they will part ways after the wedding. Will she dare risk her heart for two weeks of pleasure in the arms of an irresistible rogue? Or will her surrender become her undoing after a most unexpected turn of events mere hours before the wedding?

Too Short

I just wished this book was longer! I loved it from the beginning and wished it had gone on and on for a little more. I loved Lady Anne from the beginning and just knew she would have been perfect for Garrett! If only we could have heard more about him going on to medical school and how everything folded out. I am still quite happy with the ending results however and look forward to reading Charlotte's story next.

LOVELY ROMANCE

Of course Rosalyn Landor is one of my favorite narrators and I enjoy Julianne MacLean's books very much. This one was lovely. Both characters were nice people and fell in love at first sight. There wasn't a lot of tension or any "will they or won't they". It was pretty much a forgone conclusion that there would be a happy ending. And, that is okay with me.

Can Lady Anne find love before midnight?

I am not a historical purist so I wasn't bothered by the inaccuracies. This was a fun, quick read. A tainted lady and an illegitimate duke's son are matched for a quick marriage. Lady Anne is promised to be taken care of if she marries in name only before midnight on Christmas eve. Lord Garrett must be married before the deadline or not only does he lose his own inheritance, but his whole families. It sounds perfect - right?

Really great read.. Almost great narration..

I did not like her novella I LOVED it. I loved all the characters: The Duke, poor thing, and Duchess, Devon, Blake and Charlotte. The story was sad and wonderful. I felt just like I had read a full novel. I absolutely adored Garrett and Anne, the growth of their love for one another and their terrific sexual attraction.

The most remarkable change was the Duke. From the way Garrett said he used be and the way he was now was just incredible. I mean, I know they all said he was going mad, and he did prove that he was by some of the things he did, but he was so sweet and frightened, where he had been so cruel. His was a great character.

There was explicit sex in this story but only 1 or 2 swearwords.

It was a good read from beginning to the end.

However, I can’t see myself reading any more of Ms. MacLean’s books. I love Highlander books but hers are from as far back as 2011 and they’re still $7.99? I can’t pay that for a book that’s that old. And 5 years IS old for a book.

As to the narration: Mostly, Ms. Landor did a really good job. Yeah, all her men sound alike BUT they do sound like men, that's all that matters to me. Unfortunately, the narration isn't consistant. There would be times that the book would call for a laugh or a whisper and Ms. Landor did both, and it was wonderful. But then, the book would call for the same things again and there wouldn't be a laugh or a whisper. That's one of the reasons Ms. Landor is not one of my favorites, just a tolerable narrator.

The Unloved Brother ... finally loved

The youngest Sinclair brother Garrett is finally home to marry before the curse destroys Pembroke or more importantly the family fortune is given to the horticultural society.

This book is short...a novella....and I wished it was longer....but i wished all the Pembroke Palace books were longer.

Garrett and Anne are a great couple and super sexy. You won't be disappointed with the romance in this novella.

There is a lot of history revealed in this novella which added some mystery and answered some questions.

Love this series and Love the Sinclair family!

A nice novella

This was a fun little Christmas novella. In order to break a curse the mad duke's sons must be married by Christmas Eve. Garrett Sinclair left home 7 years ago but has returned just in time to marry the woman his brothers have chosen for him. This will be a loveless marriage with the couple living separately for the remainder of their days. Lady Anne has no marriage prospects and is disowned by most of her family after she ran away with a tutor years earlier, the tutor was paid off and she expects to remain a spinster for the rest of her life, that is until the Sinclair brothers make her an offer that will give her financial freedom. What Garrett and Anne did not expect was to fall in love. Yes, this novella is short, but it is a fully fleshed out story.

Against All Odds

This is a beautiful love story about two people, thrown together by circumstances. They pledge to marry to save a family fortune and the story is about how their love evolves and deepens, against all odds.
Such a pleasure to read and listen to the audio book . It's very nicely narrated.
