Publisher's summary

When a down-on-its-luck mining town makes Darcy Duncan marshal after she shoots a bank robber, she puts every effort into helping the town. Her accident-prone nature, however, makes the task difficult as well as throws her into the arms of an unsuspecting drifter.

All Gil Halsey wants is to bring back the boss's son and secure the foreman job on a large cattle ranch. He's been running from his past and has finally found a place to settle. That is until a scrawny, greenhorn marshal turns out to be an enticing, young woman who lures him from his path.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this audiobook. It's a book that as you listen grows on you and manages to pull you into the story as you listen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was the hero. He was a character that had to learn to forgive himself to be able to be completely happy, and had to learn to change the direction of his life to end up being happy.

What about Holly Adams’s performance did you like?

I loved her acting. Her voices matches the time and how they would sound during those times. And must admit her male hero voice sound really nice.

If you could rename Marshal in Petticoats, what would you call it?

I would not rename this book, I think the title matches the book perfectly.

Any additional comments?

This audio book is something that comes and surprises you with comedy that pops up as you go. Also pulls at you, because if things that occur through the book.

Marshall in Petticoats

Darcy and her brother are on there own. No money and hungry she takes a job as the Marshall. She pretends to be a male. She meets Gil. Gil figures out she's a girl. The storyline kept me interested. The Mayor is crooked and she is determined to find out what's going on. She dresses from girl to guy which ever one that's needed at the time. The Mayor (Caravan) is the head of the outlaw gang. She gets kidnapped. Gil has to go save her. There is plenty of things happening to keep you interested. Holly Adams does a good job narrating this book. Fun western romance!

What made the experience of listening to Marshal in Petticoats the most enjoyable?

The narrator has a very engaging voice, and really brings the characters and the story to life. She injects just the right amount of humor and sarcasm into her narration that made me smile and laugh at times.

What did you like best about this story?

This was a fun, fast-paced western romance. The characters are well fleshed out and their dialogue true to the era and genre. It was fun to hear a story about an unlikely woman marshall and her escapades, and the man who aids her, and the sometimes funny situations they get tangled up in to figure out the bad guy's motives. Along the way, of course, they fall in love.

Have you listened to any of Holly Adams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first time listening to Holly Adams. I thought she did an excellent job with the heroine's voice, as well as most of the male voices. My one objection was her portrayal of the hero. The voice she used for him just didn't quite work for me - seemed like he was constantly talking in a low whisper. However, I tried to ignore that, and simply sit back and enjoyed the story. The rest of her narration was fun to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen to audiobooks at work, so I can't listen to one in a single sitting, but I sure would have listened to this book all the way through. There are some audiobooks I have to stop and come back to for various reasons. This one wasn't one of those.

Any additional comments?

Overall, this was a great story, great writing that was true to the era, and really engaging narration. There are some very hot and steamy sex scenes in this book, which developed naturally during the hero and heroine's relationship. There was one particular sex scene I felt could have been left out, but again, nothing that I would knock the overall story for.
I hope there are more audiobooks forthcoming in this series.

Exasperating!

I didn't get past the first few chapters. The author continually hammered out the premise behind the story ... "Maybe this job won't be so hard after all" ... "She was tired of roaming and wanted to settle down" ... "She hadn't eaten X since Y" .... "She needed to feed her brother Jeremy" ... "She only needed to figure out what Craven was up to" ... on and on and on. I've learned that a story which begins with repetition, isn't likely to stray from it as the plot progresses. That said, I returned this one for a refund.
