Miss Camilla Pierpont, a renowned matchmaker and influential member of the New York Four Hundred, has vowed never to marry after suffering a devastating heartbreak during her debut years ago. However, when she is nearly abducted along the Hudson River, she finds herself rescued by an annoyingly outspoken, albeit fascinating, gentleman who challenges her in a manner she wasn't expecting.
After learning that Camilla Pierpont has enjoyed success with taking wayward young ladies in hand, Mr. Owen Chesterfield travels to the Hudson River Valley determined to convince Camilla to sponsor his sister, who is in desperate need of social rehabilitation.
Knowing her life is in danger, Camilla agrees to Owen's proposition and travels with him to West Virginia, finding herself charmed by the less-than-formal attitude of his small hometown, as well as by Owen himself. But danger waits in the shadows, disrupting what she knows would be the most spectacular match she's ever made-her own.

The narrator Did Not suit Owen, who was described as a tall, broad shoulders handsome man. I just couldn’t imagine him with a squeaky voice. The narrator did fit the other characters. I liked the fact that their was romance, mystery, and a lot of humor with a message to this book. Carrying grudges doesn’t help in creating harmony. Life is so much easier when we forgive past grievances and move on to accept people for who they are.
I loved the fact, that a person from the New York 400, could appreciate and value the people who come from A very different life style. It makes life so much more colorful when you can blend different lifestyles.
Thank you Jen for writing another great book that makes this world a brighter place.

I have generally enjoyed all the books by Jen Turano that I've read. There is always some good humor and always some outrageous situations usually the heroine gets into that make me laugh. But I'm afraid I didn't like this one as well as most of them. I'm not even sure why exactly. Some areas of the story were repetitious, so maybe I felt like it was a little too long. I had a hard time really picturing Camilla being happy living the "uncultured life" long term. Cleaning out the chicken coop is one icky task and I just don't think she will be willing to do that anytime Meemaw or the aunt calls for it. And I just wasn't sold on Camilla and Owen as a couple even if opposites attract. I was also shocked that her parents didn't put up a stink about her marrying below her position in society. Maybe I'd have enjoyed it more had I read it myself instead of listening to the audiobook since I didn't love the narration either.
I enjoyed the character of Meemaw. She was a quirky, fun character. Made me think of Granny Clampett from The Beverly Hillbillies. She and the aunt together were pretty overbearing.

What a wonderful storyteller Jen Turano is you can tell. She takes time and loves her characters and she is hilarious.

I decided to plow through although I did speed up the narrator a bit to get through it. I kept contemplating returning the book and not finishing it.
There were all the hallmarks of a Jen T book. Which I appreciated but I can’t recommend this one. It doesn’t add or take away from the other 2 books in the series. So you’re not missing out other than finding out how Camila’s story ends. It’s too bad I was looking forward to this book.
I wanted to love it but it fell flat for me
