So, let me set the stage. I’m in a meeting with no less than 15 people sitting around a giant conference table; my turn to brief is approaching. I am briefing my boss and the senior staff; he happens to be a 3-Star General, and, by the way, I am the only female in the room. I start feeling warm, but warm is an understatement; it’s like my blood is starting to boil; I immediately think that the thermostat has gone wild, but no one else is reacting or sweating.
Then my heart starts to race. Am I having a heart attack? My arm is not tingling or going numb, so maybe it's not a heart attack. I can feel the heat rising up my neck and the beads of sweat forming on my scalp and forehead and starting to roll down my back. Can I get up and leave? Nope, not possible. It’s just about my turn to brief. After about five excruciating minutes, I start to feel myself cooling down. I am simply grateful that the overheating seems to be stopping. I figured out later, with the help of Google, that was my first ‘hot flash,’ my first of many.
This event started my journey of discovery; I figured out pretty quickly that there was no real-world, practical, and actionable advice on how to navigate this journey that half the population experiences. I am here to provide that to you!

This book is an absolute gift to me as I approach that next stage of my life. I feel I have found in this book a trusted companion to help me through that daunting period, and I feel more prepared and informed. It is so clear, detailed and funny; a pleasure to listen.
As a nature lover, I especially enjoyed the section, which explains how to manage menopause symptoms naturally via lifestyle choices and alternative medicine to harness the Power of Nature.
Author Lisa M. Carroll presents the information in a friendly language and so I feel like I am listening to a friend who has walked a path I am about to take. Narrator Christine Mascott has done a great job in her delivery. Think Differently About the Menopause Years
In "Menopause Makeover: Transforming Your Life", Ms. Carroll takes us on the roller-coaster ride of both perimenopause and menopause. She provides a comprehensive, yet fun and lighthearted "crash course" of the biological, psychological, and social concerns associated with both conditions.
Whereas many women tend to sink into the negativity of the entire perimenopause-through-menopause experience, this guide presents this phase of life as an opportunity for reframing the default negative thoughts through this difficult process. The "unwelcome guests to the party" analogy is used throughout the discussion of the symptoms of both conditions, from the well-known hot flashes and weight gain to the lesser-known increased inflammation and chronic pain, making things easier to understand.
This would be a great resource for any woman facing perimenopause or menopause--it would go a long way to smoothing the transition from confusion to understanding what is happening within her body. It would also be a great gift for friends and/or loved ones who desire to be understanding and supportive of those who are going through either condition. I recommend this book!
