Publisher's summary

I said I’d never set foot on Oakley Island again. Not so long as he lived there.

After my life implodes, I’m reconsidering everything. Including my reasons for avoiding the first—and only—man I’ve ever loved.

I’m a high achiever. Driven. Maybe a little too driven. So when my boyfriend confesses to cheating and steals the promotion I’ve been working toward for years, I do the unthinkable for someone like me. I break.

The timing couldn’t be better for me to fall apart. I escape to the idyllic Oakley Island and oversee the renovations on my late grandmother’s estate. There’s just one tiny, massive, little problem: no one told me the contractor is the grown-up version of the boy I fell in love with years ago.

He was my first love. My first kiss. My first heartbreak. Now, I’m faced with seeing Hunter daily, being his boss, and forging a new dynamic that fits our adult selves. Hunter is bigger, bearded, talks in grunts rather than words, and has just as much hold on me as he ever did.

The trouble is Hunter’s life is on Oakley. His daughter is on Oakley. And it was never my plan to stay here permanently. Do I really want to risk having my heart broken a second time? More importantly, do I want to risk breaking his?

Didn’t finish

Oh man. I don’t leave negative reviews. But this book was just so incredibly boring, slow, with horrible, unrealistic dialogue. I made it through 2/3rds and then I gave up.

Disappointed

This book should’ve been half as long. There was to much inner thoughts about how they wanted the other one. Very repetitive.

Great characters and story

I love stories where you get to know whole families and communities. I can't wait to listen to or read Sadie's story.

Fun and flirty

Lots of smiles and warm feelings in this one. Wonderful characters and a very happy ending of course. Great read!

Closed door contemporary romcom (kisses only)

I was concerned I wasn't going to like Merritt after reading the first book. But that's the point of reading this one!

This book basically takes place at the same time as the last part of the first book. It isn't necessary to have read Eloise and the Grump Next Door first, but I found it to be beneficial. You don't really see the distance Merritt comes without that back story. But you could read this as a standalone and still understand everything.

I am so glad I finally was able to meet Banjo and now know why he is so beloved. I did find it odd that a couple of themes/events were reused from Eloise's book.

I again listened to this book and while it is the same narrators as the first in the series, I felt that they adjusted to become these characters. They didn't use the same voices as they did for the main characters in book 1. I appreciated that very much.
