Publisher's summary

If you look up communication gap in the dictionary, it may as well have a picture of a baby boomer trying to talk to a millennial. These younger workers born from 1980 to 2000 are the largest population in the United States, and they make up a huge portion of the workforce. But all too often, older workers view millennials as entitled or unmotivated. Javier Montes puts those notions to rest in this guide to leveraging the talents of millennials to achieve business objectives. By investing time and effort into training and developing millennials, he's built multiple companies while learning new things along the way.

After listening to this audiobook, you'll be equipped to:

  • Improve the way you attract, manage, and retain millennials;
  • Use technology to make business processes more efficient;
  • Thrive in a world built around instant gratification;
  • And reward younger workers with what they value most.

A few solid takeaways but nothing earthshattering

I think the premise of this book is decently interesting, however there's truly no cookie cutter theory to shape the "millennial workforce" or any workforce for that matter. Each person is different and unique with very individual circumstances. If I were to tell Javier to follow-up with this book I'd tell him to highlight millennial profiles, where he'd take on different case studies and apply them to each type of millennial. I've known and worked with Javier for sometime so I have a sense of his way of doing business and he can be an impressive person with a strong leadership style, this is highlighted well in this book. The interview section an talent recruitment section should be the reason you read it. There's a vast amount of power here from an employer looking to hire talent from any skill set or age range, not just millennials.

I also wish that Javier would have included more take-away pieces in each chapter. Yes, he mentioned them but obvious things like a mission statement are basic. We all know most companies have or are at least aware of the vision/mission statement. What I want are more wide ranging tools like the interview models, but then I also feel like you'd have to change the scope of the content in general.

A side note on performance: please revise this book and omit the "scratch-scratch" errors. All in all, I'm impressed yet unsatisfied. There should be more tools and strategies on developing a millennial work force. Still don't let that deter you from listening to what Javier has to say. This is a fantastic audiobook for any entrepreneur who is completely clueless about the millennial generation.
