Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair. Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Are you interested in real estate investing but there is nothing to buy that makes sense where you live? Are you tired of seeing the amazing success of others investing in markets better suited for buy and hold real estate and wish that could be you? Do you want to take advantage of wealth building opportunities but are frustrated by the fact there just isn't any way to do that until the next market crash? Real estate investing is one of the greatest vehicles to build wealth, but it doesn't make sense in every market. Some locations provide incredible returns, while others make it almost impossible to find a single property that profits. Traditionally, investing out of state has been considered risky and unwise.

It's comforting to imagine that superstars in their fields were just born better equipped than the rest of us. When a co-worker loses 20 pounds, or a friend runs a marathon while completing a huge project at work, we assume they have more grit, more willpower, more innate talent, and above all, more motivation to see their goals through. But that's not at actually true, as popular Inc.com columnist Jeff Haden proves. "Motivation" as we know it is a myth. Motivation isn't the special sauce that we require at the beginning of any major change.

There is a lie you've told yourself since you were old enough to tell yourself lies. The lie is I'll be happy if I can just get what I want. The truth is far more complex and beautiful and powerful than that. The reality is that when we get what we want, our inner reward system turns off unless its tied to another future goal afterwards. On top of this, modern society bombards us with false narratives that confuse us about what we actually want and what we actually need. This leaves countless people lost and without direction.

A Great Starter Guide to Personal Finance
Money Honey was the second book I have listened to by Rachel Richards, the first being Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement. I enjoy the light, inviting approach , and Lela Rhodes’ performance being so energetic and clean, makes for an easy listen, even when the subject becomes more complicated.
I listened at 1.1-1.2 speed for my personal listening speed preference.
The information provided in Money Honey is certainly good information for someone new to personal finance to get ideas on how to control their money better, and plan for retirement as early as possible. I like that Ms. Richards doesn’t assume every reader has a lot of money, which makes this book more welcoming to listeners with smaller incomes.
Some drawbacks (not highly important ones) are that the author uses she/her instead of they/them. It’s just weird listening to a made up story that should fit anyone’s life, and then hearing she when I’m a male trying to imagine myself in the scenario. Ms. Richards uses far too many “hashtag” quips for my liking, saying things like “hashtag too-many-hashtags” while explaining subjects. I’m almost 40, and though I’ve used hashtags, I find it strange to incorporate them in spoken language because I can’t click in the hashtag in my ear and follow other stories related to the spoken hashtag.
There are too many dated references, and some of the material may become dated within the next few years. Imagine the financial system is exactly the same in 500 years and this book is still relevant, having a reference to the covid-19 pandemic going on at the time of writing will carry weight to people, who hopefully in 500 years have no idea what diseases are.
You can tell Rachel Richards is with someone in the Navy with how much she cusses. Goodness she cusses a lot in this book, and it’s fine, just unnecessary I feel.
Overall, I certainly suggest picking up this title for the information contained in it if you are new to personal finance, and looking to gain control of your finances. I have used some of the methods before picking up this book, and she is definitely spot on with a lot of things. One thing, I will say is that this book is targeted toward people in the USA, and doesn’t take in to account persons in, or of other countries, or US citizens living outside the country with different tax situations. Lela Rhodes does a fantastic job bringing this book to life.

I needed this!! A++
Okay so I’m a 30 year old, single mom to three, who owns her own business, house, cars, etc... I thought I had it all figured out. Then I listen to this book. LIFE CHANGING. I listened to one chapter then I’d stop, actually do what she says and then move on. I feel so much more in control of my money and have a plan now!! I thought I was in control before and had a “budget” but the freebies she sends to really really budget are so much better! The best part is that this is written as if she’s actually having a conversation with me, not as if she’s some snooty 50+ person who knows better. She’s a normal person who is our age! The ideas she has for us to do are realistic and attainable! I can’t recommend this enough!

Sound Advice & A Must Read For College Juniors
Rachel Richard’s book, “Money Honey” is a must read for all, but here is what I propose to you – gift this book to every college junior because they will need the information contained in this book to survive and thrive in the real world when they graduate. Personal finance isn’t the most exciting of topics until it becomes necessary for life. Richards has an incredible way of explaining these important concepts by eschewing jargon. And I am so thankful for that. This is a book I will be reading and listening (yes, I have both the physical book and the audio version) to again and again and will insist that my kids do so as well. This is the book I wish I had when I was a college junior. I could have used all that Richards teaches about budgeting, savings and paying off credit card debt.

Good contents, cringy syntax
Overall the book was very helpful and informative, as one would hope. The only reservations I had with it was the "hip" lingo that was inserted throughout. #cringe
Maybe it would have been more bearable if read directly from the book but the narration of it was, for me, exhausting.
However, it has good information and I'm glad I read it.

Great Listen!
Normally I only do audio books for stories since I’m not overly concerned with remembering all of the details. However, I decided to give this a try as an audio book and I’m glad I did! It was very easy to follow along and the information was super helpful! I haven’t had a chance to sit down and do the budgeting sheet part yet but I am planning to do that soon!
The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is for performance. I honestly think the author should have narrated - it would have made more sense and been more enjoyable because I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator’s voice. I also felt like the “hashtag” mentions were a little too juvenile and made the author seem a little less credible than she actually is.
Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some financial guidance - whether you are a novice or a pro!

Great short and to the point. I related to a lot of it which made it simple to understand. Exactly what I needed to push my self to get my $h!t together! Rachel makes this 1 through 7 steps very doable, with timelines and lots of examples from real readers from her community. I have been following her on social media and on her blog and I cannot emphasize how down to earth and super achievable! Keep up the great work Rachel, keep inspiring others!

Simple. Effective. Motivating!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm not even in the target demographic! hello how simple Rachel keeps the financial strategies of saving, getting out of debt, and investing in your future. her strategies are also very effective and motivating. I'll highly recommend this book If you're looking to improve your net worth!

One of my favorite books
This is actually my second time reading this book! These 7 simple steps has helped me & my family financially. This is definitely an easy read & Rachel is hilarious. My second time reading this was on audible bc I have a one year old! I just popped my headphones in & enjoyed every section.
