About this listen
Join the award-winning professor who literally wrote the textbook on nutrition. In this course, Jamie Pope - a New York Times best-selling author, leading nutritionist, registered dietitian, and professor at Vanderbilt - answers your questions and clears up misconceptions.
Food fuels and nourishes your body, providing the nutrients needed for survival and preventing lifestyle-related diseases. You make more than 200 decisions about food a day: what you choose to eat, how much you eat, what you add to foods, where and when you eat, and more. But making the right decisions can be difficult.
Modeled after her popular nutrition course, Prof. Pope’s lecture series introduces listeners to the foundations of nutrition. You’ll learn to separate the wheat from the chaff among nutrition claims and find answers to a cornucopia of questions. What is a healthy diet? Can you trust claims on food labels? How do your nutrition needs change as you age? Should you take supplements, eat more plant foods, or adopt a low-carb diet?
Following the best scientific evidence and dietary guidance, this course will help you understand the essential concepts and vocabulary of nutrition. You’ll gain tools and strategies to sift through the information and claims that bombard you when you surf the internet, walk down a supermarket aisle, or even gather with family and friends.
In 16 easily digestible lectures, you will become a more informed consumer, more discerning cook, and better judge of what you see in the media and on food product labels.
This course is part of the Learn25 collection and includes a free PDF study guide.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Now, in Whole, he explains the science behind that evidence, the ways our current scientific paradigm ignores the fascinating complexity of the human body, and why, if we have such overwhelming evidence that everything we think we know about nutrition is wrong, our eating habits haven’t changed.

It takes 450 years for a plastic bottle to fully biodegrade, and there are around 12.7 million tons of plastic entering the ocean each year. At our current pace, in the year 2050 there could be more plastic in the oceans than fish, by weight. These are alarming figures, but plastic pollution is an environmental crisis with a solution we can all contribute to.

Great Intro to nutrition
Ms. Pope is easy to listen to and doesn't use a monotone like some people can revert to after a while. she gives easy to understand explanations and offers ways to investigate what you know and are learning without taking up to much time.

Pure education
I'm self-studying for the NASM-CPT certification and nutrition was by far the hardest section for me to digest (pun intended). The chemistry was extremely difficult for me to understand by reading it myself online and this audiobook was the perfect supplement (help me). All of the information is in line with what the CPT course teaches and I retained so much more by listening to it. This book is a lecture, it is not entertaining - but very informative for someone new to nutrition and I appreciate it being available as it was exactly what I needed - thank you.

Comprehensive, clear, & very helpful
This is a comprehensive audio course taught by the professor who literally wrote the textbook on nutrition. Professor Pope organizes this course around the fundamentals of nutrition, carps, protein, fats, vitamins/minerals, etc. But I especially like that she ties this science to real world questions. She helps you understand how to meat your nutritional goals while sifting through a world of misleading information. In other words, the course provides a great foundation in the big concepts while staying practical. I highly recommend this series to anyone who really wants to understand the science of eating well.

Scientific Take on Nutrition (no fad diets here)
This is a great set of lectures on the real science underlying health and nutrition. Pope (an expert and Vanderbilt prof) dispels a lot of myths prevalent in popular culture about what really makes for a healthy diet. But she does show in a balanced way, and doesn't insist on listeners taking any one approach.
