About this listen

Eat for your mental health and learn the fascinating science behind nutrition with this guide from an expert psychiatrist.

Did you know that blueberries can help you cope with the aftereffects of trauma? That salami can cause depression, or that boosting Vitamin D intake can help treat anxiety?

When it comes to diet, most people's concerns involve weight loss, fitness, cardiac health, and longevity. But what we eat affects more than our bodies; it also affects our brains. And recent studies have shown that diet can have a profound impact on mental health conditions ranging from ADHD to depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, OCD, dementia, and beyond.

A triple threat in the food space, Dr. Uma Naidoo is a board-certified psychiatrist, nutrition specialist, and professionally trained chef. In This Is Your Brain on Food, she draws on cutting-edge research to explain the many ways in which food contributes to our mental health and shows how a sound diet can help treat and prevent a wide range of psychological and cognitive health issues.

Packed with fascinating science, actionable nutritional recommendations, and delicious, brain-healthy recipes, This Is Your Brain on Food is the go-to guide to optimizing your mental health with food.

Very informative and easy to listen to

I think this book has so much good and scientific information in it without being too dry or hard to listen to. The mix of real personal stories and the use scientific evidence for explanation is great. I always love when an author narrates their own book, and she did not disappoint! Great all around, would definitely recommend!

Whole Food Eating, Brain-Gut Connection

This book is like a combination of whole food eating, gut microbiome, brain-gut connection, and Mediterranean diet recipes. If you have an undiagnosed disease (like Celiac disease or gluten sensitivity), eliminating unhealthy foods will have a noticeable impact on your body and brain. Or if you're at the extreme end of eating unhealthy meals (like fast food and soda several times a week), again you'll notice some improvements when eating more healthy meals. However, I don't think the cited animal studies showing decreased symptoms from healthy eating would mean similar results for humans.

This book is a must read! I personally can atest that food does impact the brain and gut! I was diagnosed with having been Toxic chemical, Heavy Metal and a specific Mold Signature poisoning all at the same time. This book supports the coaching guideance of my Functional Medicine Doctor! The gut micro-biome is extremely important! Enjoy this book and use it as a longterm reference.

Revolutionary info for public mental health. Everyone should read this.

Dr. Uma Naidoo is a nutritional psychiatrist which she talks about being an up and coming field- an important yet vital component to improving our lives as we try to move away from over processed and sugary food. Each chapter goes to such great lengths to explain certain mental health diagnoses and how to supplement their diet. Dr. Naidoo uses former clients as examples as to how they improved their diet and life because of her methods. Therapists everywhere should be reading and telling their clients about this book because it is such an amazing tool. I haven't stopped raving about this book since I began listening to it. The end of the book easily charts what foods to eat for certain brain/mood outcomes in addition to listing recipes and what to shop for when grocery shopping (everyone's secret nightmare).

Good review for some, Great intro. for others

Because I have an interest in how foods affect ones health, a lot of this was review for me. If you're just starting to look into how foods affect ones body and mind, this is a great book. I think it might be better in print so I could go back and review, as well as, skip parts I'm not interested in. I am thankful there is a PDF with this title.
