About this listen

Following in the footsteps of her critically acclaimed novel If You Only Knew, best-selling author Kristan Higgins returns with a pitch-perfect look at the affection - and the acrimony - that binds sisters together.

Ainsley O'Leary is so ready to get married - she's even found the engagement ring her boyfriend has stashed away. What she doesn't anticipate is for Eric to blindside her with a tactless breakup he chronicles in a blog - which (of course) goes viral. Devastated and humiliated, Ainsley turns to her half sister, Kate, who's already struggling after the sudden loss of her new husband. Kate has always been so poised, so self-assured, but Nathan's death shatters everything she thought she knew - including her husband - and sometimes the people who step up aren't the ones you expect. With seven years and a murky blended family dynamic between them, Ainsley and Kate have never been overly close, but their shared sorrow dovetails their faltering worlds into one. Despite the lifetime of history between them, the sisters must learn to put their differences aside and open their hearts to the inevitable imperfection of family - and the possibility of one day finding love again.

Kristanna Higgins knocks it out of the park again. With skillful mastery, she takes heartbreak and makes you laugh out loud. The narrators were perfect for the alternating point of view. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Omg...is usually hate romance and sex in books, but even my cyclical self melted a little. It was so well done, not embarrassing, and done very well.

The rest of the book is so well narrated with characters you really care about. Wonderful narration. Great story of sisters, brothers, heartbreak, and good things coming from loss.

Don’t hesitate. Not a moment I didn’t enjoy.

Pure perfection....

I really enjoyed this book. Kate and Ainsley are stepsisters who both experienced loss. The loss brought the two together and it was really interesting to see the contrast. Both narrators were really good. I have many books by Amy Rubinate, so I am familiar with her voice. I listen to this story at night before I fall asleep instead of watching TV.

Even though it was a contrast between two sisters, I think Ainsley's character seemed a little more flushed out than Kate's character, even though Kate probably was a quiet, introspective person. Sands Xe has a GREAT voice and I could visualize in my mind what Kate could have looked like.

In full disclosure, I am not completely finished with the book yet, so I am also glad I cannot give any spoiler clues. It was an interesting story, I just wanted to smack their mother and say, "What the heck is wrong with you!?" The father pops in and out of the story, and I didn't really get the deal too clearly on their relationship, but the story was really about the reunion of two sisters to help each other heal from their grief.

Enjoyable

This was a very enjoyable novel. The narrator for both characters was wonderful. There were a lot of deep life lessons in this one. The Author does a great job of making you love some of them and hate some of them. Started off sad, but ended very well. I will probably listen again.
