Publisher's summary

For astronaut David Dixon, sneaking aboard a Russian space station and stealing a nuclear bomb was the easy part - now he has to survive re-entry on an untested inflatable heat shield and then deal with the aftermath of being the most wanted man on Earth.

When a clandestine intelligence agency offers David the chance to return to space and probably not get killed - he finds himself in a world of intrigue when a secret mission takes an unexpected turn as he goes undercover on an orbiting science platform in order to track down the spymaster known as Silverback.

Good Story

Good mystery, excellent character work, and mostly good science.

The first couple of thousand words of this book should have been the end of the previous book which would have massively helped the first book, which had no real ending, and made this book more coherent. I like Mayne's writing, but this was just dumb.

In spite of the problems noted in the spoiler section, this was a very good mix of SF and mystery/suspense. While I would suggest a bit more help from people with an understanding of the science and engineering involved, I would still recommend this book.

There are some significant technical problems with the story, but I'll leave those to GoodReads, where there is a spoiler tag.

Hard SciFi With Mystery and Heart

This is the the near future I hope we'll actually see soon, with heroic men and women leading the way. All given life by Kyle McCarley's narration.

There's action, danger, suspense, mystery, and romance played out in a world of orbital space development.

Great characters!

I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator was very good with few exceptions. The main characters were very likable. The story was imaginative and interesting if implausible in places. Stories like this can sometimes be implausible, so I don’t hold that against this book. The author really needs to work on his medical research. There are a lot of medical inaccuracies that are annoying! I do recommend this book and author and will be reading or listening to more of his titles. I also hope there will be more with the David Dixon character :)

Another great story by Andrew Mayne

Great story. Looking forward to another exciting adventure in this series. Mayne's attention to detail is astonishing. I have officially read every Mayne book published and I look forward to anything he writes in the future.

A Decent Sequel that continues the series

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars. I liked it. It has everything you'd expect from a sequel. More world building. More covert space missions. More extreme space problems. I enjoy the series, but book one pulled me in and didn't let go. This one was slower to start and less of a thrill ride.

If you liked the 1st book you'll like this one, it's a solid sequel. I just wish it was as fast paced and WTF as the first one from the beginning.

Andrew Mayne is Amazing

Any book you read or audio you listen to is just excellent. He has such a knowledge base that is outstanding. He must do hours upon hours of research for his books. All are a good story and plausible. And the narrator is so easy to listen to and is a favorite narrator of mine.

Quickly becoming my favorite author

Andrew Mayne weaves a spellbinding space tale with the tiniest little hint of a romance that helps to drive the main characters ethics. A fun read from start to finish, though you'll definitely want to read/listen to Station Breaker first as it picks up right where SB leaves off. Highest recommendation.
